Customer Reviews of The Cutting Edge - Going for the Gold
I liked it... As a quick response to offset all the bad reviews, I'd just like to say that I enjoyed it very much. I didn't think the actors were bad at all. Maybe it wasn't as good as the original, but what movie is? If it's lacking in some things, it's not enough to ruin the entire film as many people seem to think. Personally, I thought it was a cute and highly entertaining movie, and I'll stick with that opinion.
The Cutting Edge - Going for the Gold
Ross Thomas lights up the film with a brio and zest not often seen. He nails the transition from a boyish inline skater to a figure skater of maturity and spunk. While the theme is similar to the original "Cutting Edge" they are not truly comparable.

>Both leads use their eyes to startling effect and I found some of the scenes mesmerizingly haunting. This is a movie that makes you fall in love with the lovers. I've watched it multiple times and I'm still finding nuances in it.

A Terribly DIsappointing (and unnecessary) Sequel--WHY?
Okay, so THE CUTTING EDGE is one of my favorite chick flicks of all time (I say this AS a chick.) My husband and I call classic romantic movies "baby sitter movies", as in, I can just hang by myself, chow on popcorn and watch the film over and over.

>At any rate, CUTTING EDGE? Classic baby sitter movie. This new cut-rate spin off is a huge disappointment. You have Kate and Doug (the original romantic pair in the first movie), years later as the parents of a skating star. I'll give them points for sliding that surprise in and making it fun--especially since the characters aren't played by the original actors, so that was a bit of fun.

>After that, however, the movie tanks and never stops sliding downhill. There's no chemistry whatsoever between the main characters--the very thing that made the original so charming--and the script is so agonizingly stupid, it's no wonder the original actors, Moira Kelly and DB Sweeney wouldn't sign on. What makes this sequel so angering, though, is that it had such potential to be a fabulous movie. Low budget, idiotic script, and bad casting choices, however, relegate it to the remainder bend overnight. I wouldn't even spend a dollar on it.
