Customer Reviews of The Complete Story: World War I
World War I DVD This DVD comes in a three-volume set. It is narrated by Robert Ryan whose voice sets the tone for this truly monumental telling of an event that is still being felt by the world amost 100 years later. <

>It is non-political, it does not take sides, what it does is show with clarity and feeling the effect war had on the entire world. The social, economic, and political realities of the day are explained. I have a minor in history and I was impressed with the research and scholarly approach taken by the film makers in this epic documentary. <

>There are over 70 episodes within the three volume set. Everyone who watches will gain an appreciation for how WWI changed the geo-political landscape forever. After watching this series, you will be able to understand in depth what Lawrence of Arbia meant to the Arabs. <

>This DVD is worth 2x the price.
When the maps were redrawn
Please read the reviews below, each adds some significant points that will, hopefully, convince you to purchase this set. While the narrative at times approaches dramatic classroom history lectures, thankfully it avoids the propaganda slant that sets like "The Big Battles" (WWII) are somewhat diminished by.

>It has been noted that this set is heavy on America's involvement in The Great War. While we were only full-fledged participants for the last year, or so, it does give the American viewer a frame of reference. It explains the major events of this period - when the maps we know today were drawn, and does it with period film! This alone is an amazing feat and worth the price of the set. Ryan's clear narration is objective, yet not dispassionate. He is engaging and enhances the mood of the events covered, much in the way music can add emotion to a film.

>All in all, you will come away from this with a sound overview of a war that everyone should know about.

>To more fully understand WWl there are other videos and books - both about the whole conflict, and about individual events. These may serve as the supplement necessary to gain objective, and more complete, knowledge about the time. I would highly recommend adding the BBC's "The Great War" (video and book) to your library as well.

>This is a set you will watch many times and hopefully share with younger audiences.
Not quite as good as the CBS documentary
but essential to the student of WWI.
