Customer Reviews of The Bride With White Hair
You are not Worthy of the Rose of Life Movie Summary: A peaceful young man who is an expert in the martial arts falls in love with a strange hired assassin from an evil clan. They make a vow never to doubt each other. A vow neither of their clans can let them keep.
My Opinion: This is a fairly hard core Hong Kong Action/Martial Arts film. It's a lot like a live action version of an animated film like Princess Mononoke or Akira. I really enjoyed those films as well as this one. It is quite strange but that's part of its beauty. It is very easy to sympathize with the main character as he doubts the word of the strange wolf girl he fell in love with.
DVD Quality: Nothing Special. Includes trailers from other films. The English language track isn't that great.
What You Should Do: If you are into martial arts films and/or animated movies like Princess Mononoke then you should check this out. This is definitely one you should rent or borrow before you decide to buy. If you are looking for another Crouching Tiger, I think this one will be a little too strange for you.
Loses something in video transfer
THis is one of my favorite Hong Kong movies, no, one of my favorite movies of all time. There is beauty, great fight scenes, engaging characters, Chinese Opera conventions, a strong female character (it's always nice to see a woman in an action movie who doesn't scream and get rescued all the time) and a nice tragic ending. I overlook the silly parts (gratuitious sex in the waterfall that doesn't seem to end, evil Siamese twins, etc.) or just love them with the rest of the movie.
The problem arises in video transfer. Even though my video was letterboxed and one of Tai Seng's newer releases, it was still murky for the most part. I couldn't see half the action and many of the really pretty shots were lost. Most of the rest of the movie takes place at night or in a foggy dark forest (or THE foggy dark forest - it's a familiar set to anyone who loves these movies) and the video transfer just kills it.
I don't know about the DVD but I assure you that I will write a review of teh DVD as soon as I buy it.
Funky
What a weird film. Who thought of this? A girl raised in the mountains by wolves, possessing magical hair?
What a bloody freak show.
