Customer Reviews of The Best of The Electric Company
Previews not kid appropriate This is a great set of DVD's for this show. However, I do think parents should be aware of the previews for other shows that seem targeted to the 30-something crowd and not something I would want my 4 and 7 year old to see. For example, there is a scene in one of the preview ads for a show where a girl asks a guy, "so, you want to have sex?" NOT a DVD that you can just pop in for your little kid and walk away. I was VERY disappointed in this marketing ploy.
Genius and educationally effective
In the late 60s, my father was busy frittering away my family's savings as a compulsive gambler and my mother was doing all she could to keep my family together. How did I respond? I sat down in front of our MASSIVE television encased in a wooden cabinet and watched educational television.

>Simply put: I learned to read by watching The Electric Company (and Sesame Street). I know that sentence will cause seizures in people who think all television is evil, but get over yourself. Some television simply has the power to do good in the lives of its viewers. (I am now 40 and make a living as an editor. I submit that I would not be in this line of work without The Electric Company.)

The best PBS kid's show ever made!
I remember and grew up with The Electric Company. This is the best educational show ever put on television. I love TEC! Shout and Sesame Workshop have finally released this great show on DVD. Even though it is from the 1970's, this DVD set deserves more than 5 stars. Today's PBS kid's shows are nothing compared to this show. I hope in the coming months they will release a second volume, and more Electric Company DVD box set volumes in the future.
