Customer Reviews of The Beatles - Help!
HELP! This review needs a more than 5 stars option! An EXCELLLENT movie. (But before you read further, I am referring, in this review, to the VHS version.) Anyway, it has a wonderful, funny plot, which is Ringo gets sent a great big ruby red ring, which just happens to be the ancient sacrifical ring, belonging to a cult of demented Hindus. They go looking for the ring, trying to get it off poor Ringo's finger, and once the Beatles discover this, they begin seeking "enlightenment" from various Ring specialists in the early scenes of the film. When all their early attempts fail, they turn towards two mad scientists, who find themselves wanting the ring also, so the leader (and smarter) of the two, can "rule the world" (You might recognize the lead scientist as the snooty TV excutive from A Hard Day's Night, and the loud-mouth, oddball army general from Magical Mystrey Tour.) So, anyway, the film has lots of really great moments. For example, at an Indian restraunt, the baddies get into the restraut, and knock out all the staff, and dress as waiters. A chef's belongings fall into a bowl of soup. These are: Glasses, and a sports season ticket. When the bad guys bring
the Beatles their soup, Ringo and John both begin to find the "sufff' int her bowls. John pulls out the ticket, and shows it to Ringo, saying: "Whats this?" and Ringo seriously replies, "It's a season ticket, what'd you think it is?" And John says ack: "I rather like seasoning in my soup..." And when a
traitor to the Hindus, wnating to "help!" the Beatles, she come to their pad in London. She pulls out a shot needle, which is meant for Ringo, to make his finger shrink so the ring will fall off, and George, who is sitting next to her, looks, his eyes dilate, and he points at the needle, then faints. These are but two of the zany, hilliarious, funny and smart scenes form the movie. The cast include a Scotland Yard inspector unusually attached to the word famous, The two mad scitntists, Clang, the ldader of the Hindus who claims, "My gosh, they all look the same", a skeptical assistant to Clang, who when they find the ring is missing, suggests "Has no one checked the wash basin?"
and more. I reccomend this to ANYBODY and EVERYBODY. Even if you aren't a Beatles fan, this movie may very well change your mind.
A dissapointment
Die hard fans of the Beathes will be the ones interested on this movie. But most Beatles fans never find out anything wrong with their work. Well, if we are honest, we will notice that Lennon's music sometimes sucks (Revolution #9) and that most of their records are not perfect (come on, you hate those experiments by George with Indian music).
In other words, when the Beatles are good, they are excellent (95% of the time), but when they are bad, it is ugly (5%).
I think "Help!' falls in the five percent. The movie is about cult members and scientists trying to get a ring out of Ringo's finger. You think this will go for about 10 minutes, but too late you find out that's all what the movie is about.
I give three stars to the movie only because of the music. However, the songs are pushed within the film, as they are not related to the plot. At one moment, they are playing with snow while singing "Ticket to Ride". This comes out of nowhere.
Anyway, the movie is not good, but it is an opportunity to see the Beatles, together, and in witty behavior. Now, that is something that a fan will appreciate, even in a stupid movie as this one.
Beatles Rule
I am 27 and from India, i was in my 9th graded when my sister presented me RUBBER SOUL, and from that moment on I have been a beatles fan, Around 10 years back I saw Hard Days Night and I was in love , then i saw HELP and i was BLOWN, the movie is full of humor, energy and lots more, One of my favourite scenes is when they all are in the Loo and the baddy turns on the dryer, the best part of the scene is when Georges shirt gets sucked into the dryer, and RIngo says "Ther is More Here than meets the eyes". It's funny the way he says this.
There are some people whose review i have read says movie is okay, those people must be doped, not to appreciate this movie,
For Gods Sake its THE BEATLES, it dosent get any better than this,KUDOS to the Beatles and their Masterpiece
