Customer Reviews of The Allman Brothers Band - Live at the Beacon Theatre
A Veritable Feast of Fine Musicianship This is simply a terrific set. The combination of Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks is absolutely killer and they clearly inspire one another. Trucks is a virtuoso that can do all the Duane licks and then take it to a whole other level. He's clearly listened to alot of Jazz. Warren dishes up king-sized portions of soulful melodicism and is a fine singer to boot. The band is tight and hits many intense peaks. Yes,Gregg's vocals show signs of his age (hey, don't we all, in some way?) but when he launches into A Change Is Gonna Come, there is no doubt that he has very few peers. Nor that he is one fine songwriter. The bulk of the newer material is quite strong and the rhythm section kicks butt throughout. I watch this again and again and the enjoyment never fades. If you love the Allmans and/or are a connoiseur of fine guitar-playing, you will love this!
loved it for the guitar work - especially warren haynes
i own only two albums of the allman bros - eat a peach and live at filmore. so i cannot say that i knew too many songs from this set.

>but the guitar work on this dvd is something else. especially warren haynes who alternates between his gibson les paul and gibson es-335 - he plays such inspired solos. very bluesy.

<
>derek trucks who pretty much sticks to his gibson sg 61 reissue, is highly talented, plays a wicked slide and clearly inspired more by jazz than the blues - but imo is a step below haynes.

>but their chemistry and jams/duels doesn't in anyway shame the original famed twin guitar attack of duane allman and dicky betts.

>loved this show!

>but the audio quality of my dvd is poor. wonder if it is a lone manufacturing flaw as others dont seem to suffer from the same problem.

>if you like the allmans, the blues or the electric guitar, get this!
Smokin' Allman Brothers Live
I bought this DVD after I had seen them in concert. The DVD was actually recorded several months before the concert I attended so it was very fresh in my mind. I have been a long time Allman Brothers fan and it was my first live performance of thiers that I had attended; I was blown away (as expected). The DVD in itself is one of the best recorded concerts that I have ever seen.
