More than par for the course, this thorough two-hour program goes beyond highlights to put a human face on the biennial rivalry between the United States and the European golf teams, which played out in 2002 on the 7,118-yard Brabazon course at The Belfry, England. The American team, led by Curtis Strange, included the marquee players Tiger Woods and Paul Azinger. The Europeans, led by Sam Torrance, had lost the Ryder Cup at Brookline in Boston in 1999 amid controversy: the Americans celebrated a clutch shot by running onto the green before the title was decided. The 2002 tournament, delayed a year following the September 11 terrorist attacks, fostered a friendlier spirit, as witness a hands-across-the-table lunch for the "Ryder Cup wives." The thrilling golf footage, though, is everything golf fans could want, from Azinger's spectacular shot from a greenside bunker on the 18th hole to a tournament-winning 11-foot putt from the Europeans' unlikely hero, rookie Paul McGinley. --Donald Liebenson

Customer Reviews of The 34th Annual Ryder Cup 2002
Excellent job done by the European PGA Tour media! Better than expected. Left me wanting more of Murray's swing analysis! Reminded me of my trip over to Scotland to play golf. Excellent commentary, no Johnny Miller to be found commentating here for NBC. All footage is taken from European telecasts. Nice blend of other footage besides golf (security, etc) as well as actual coverage from the event. Would highly recommend if you enjoyed the 99 Ryder Cup DVD.
