Events take a sentimental turn in "No Need For Memories": a rare snowfall brings recollections of the day Tenchi's mother died. As everyone else has drunk too much sake, Sasami has to care for the stricken Tenchi with the help of robots Azaka and Kamidake: Jurai medicine cures him.
The arrival of Ryoko's archrival, the bounty hunter Nagi, raises hob at the Masaki family shrine. She kidnaps Tenchi as bait for Ryoko, leading to a duel in a Western town Washu creates on Venus. Worried about Tenchi's fate as the face-off begins, Ayeka calls out, "Ryoko, I don't care if you die, but don't lose, OK?" Things eventually get sorted out, but not before cabbit/spaceship Ryo-Ohki falls in love with Nagi's Ryo-Ken. This first broadcast series is even sillier than Tenchi Muyo! but every bit as much fun.
Rated for ages 13 and up for cartoon violence and drinking. --Charles Solomon

Customer Reviews of Tenchi Universe - Volume 3 - On Earth III
The third DVD in the Tenchi Universe... Where to start, where to start....first off Washu makes a android modeled after herself. But while the robot has her powers, and a tad more, it ends up with Mihoshi's mind after a hair from that police officer somehow gets into the scanning device. Don't ask. Anyway, Mecha-Washu eats everything it can find, thinks she is a officer of the law and likes to watch TV. In the battle between Washu and her robot Washu's doll-puppets are so confused they end up cheering for both sides! We also learn WHY Washu was put into the shrine in the first place - boy was she evil!
The next episode is about memories and, while it is touching and helps full out the characters of Tenchi and his family, there is not much of a plot to comment on. IT shows the grief Tenchi, Katsuhito and Nobuyuki feel at the lose of Tenchi's mother. It also hints at a link between them and the Jurai Royal Family.
The last episode brings in the interesting character of Nagi, a bounty hunter with a male cabbit, and reminds us that Ryoko is STILL a wanted criminal. She ends up kidnapping Tenchi to draw Ryoko to Venus. In the end, because of Tenchi, Ayeka and Ryoko end up fighting Nagi together.
While the DVD is not as interesting or funny as the others, it does show the female characters evolving beyond petty infighting.
Excellent series
INTRODUCTION:
Although the Tenchi Muyo anime series became a massive hit in its native Japan and other neighboring nations, it was never fortunate enough to gain that kind of success in the United States. That's a real shame, because this is one of the best anime series out there. It DID air briefly in America on the Cartoon Network, but it never really won the audiences over the way series like Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z did. But this series is every bit as good as the animes that DID achieve fame in America. Read on for my review of this set.
BASIC PLOT:
It's hard to describe this series because there are so many twists and turns in the plot, but I'll try my best. The story follows a young man named Tenchi Masaki, who has just returned to school from a long break. Soon enough, he meets up with a rather strange cast of characters, and discovers that he may be the last hope for saving the universe! To make things even more difficult for him, many of these strange characters he has met fall in love with him, and this creates some competition amongst them that results in some rather comical scenes.
SERIES OPINIONS:
Why is this series so underrated in America? This is one of the best animes out there. It combines the samurai-style action of Dragon Ball Z with the romance/slapstick humor stylings of Sailor Moon, and this creates a series that is universally appealing. And believe me, over time this series will grow on you.
THE DUB:
Surprisingly, the dub version of this series isn't that bad. A few scenes have been mistranslated or toned down for American audiences, but it's nothing major like with other animes. Here's a little tip, if you're curious about what has been changed - while you're watching the Japanese subtitled version of the DVD, hit the Audio button on your DVD remote and switch to the dub track. This way you can watch the English dub with the English subtitles for the Japanese version - there's no better way to see how different some of the translations are!
DVD:
Once again, DVDs featuring an uncut dub and an uncut sub have been released. This is great because you get both versions of the series. There are also some bonus features as well. There aren't a whole lot of bonuses, but at least there are some - a number of anime DVDs don't have any at all!
OVERALL:
Overall this is an excellent DVD set, and it's good to have all the episodes of this classic series on DVD at long last. Still, the DVDs could have been done a little better. If you're an anime fan, this is a strongly recommended release.
The Madness Continues!
The Third Volume of Tenchi Universe is called "On Earth III" and that's mostly true. The last espiode, they actually go to Venus and try to free Tenchi from a bounty hunter that's Ryoko's arch rival.
The gang gets to deal with Mecha-Washu in the first espiode of this DVD. Mecha-Washu is Washu's creation (duh), but has Mioshi's brain! Mioshi gives new meaning to the word "Airhead" as she is dense. I feel sorry for Kiyone!
