Customer Reviews of Ten Years Later/New Sounds of
A Timeless Voice The first thing to know about this CD is that it contains none of the familiar Top-40 hits that are associated with Gene Pitney. What it does contain is some lovely unfamiliar material, some incredibly performed classics and, inevitably, That Voice.
That voice was uncommonly accomplished by the time he was in his early 20s, with more natural grace, instinctive technique and drama than anyone else in his genre, bar none. With three octaves to roam, some kind of supernatural affinity with lyrics, and the blessing of many of rock's great legendary composers coming to him, he made some of the finest recordings of the sixties, and they stand the test of time untarnished.
Enter the Beatles, and when the US market was UK-mad, Gene Pitney's US career eventually diminished. But his artistic gifts certainly didn't. If you admire his voice, you'll find that he makes very few false steps with any material, and you're in for a lot of new favorites in this compilation. You might find the production of these songs time-warping you to the seventies, but you'll be just as thrilled as ever by Gene Pitney's voice and his passionate commitment to content, lifting the material to his level.
Bottom line, there is always That Voice. If you're a Pitney fan, and you don't acquaint yourself with this material, it's your loss. Please give yourself a gift and check it out!
