Customer Reviews of Techno XT Stroller in Storm
Maybe Too Lightweight For the most part, I like the Maclaren Techno XT. It is lightweight, easy to handle, and comfortable (at least my 15-month-old son. seems to like it). The adjustable handles seem to extend higher than a lot of other strollers, so for tall moms and dads that is a plus. I'm 5'9" and I can really notice a difference.
Now, for the drawbacks. The basket under the stroller is extremely small. I don't know what it's designed to hold. A diaper or two, perhaps. And, it is rendered inaccessible when the seat is reclined. Perhaps most important is the weight distribution of the stroller. Anything hanging in a stroller organizer/bag on the back of the stroller is likely to cause the stroller to tip backward when your child is being removed from the stroller. This is a potentially situation. I spoke with Maclaren Customer Service, which is not the best, and was told that the stroller cannot handle weight exceeding a pound, even though Maclaren actually sells a stroller organizer that would hold a few bottles, toys, etcs. Not a HUGE problem, but something to consider if you are used to hanging things off the back of your stroller when shopping or strolling.
Also, my 2003 had faulty wheel brakes that were inoperable after the second use. The sent replacements fairly quickly. Maybe that was corrected in the 2004 version, but the weight issue apparently remains the same.
Great stroller - horrible company!
We bought this stroller in the faded denim print. This is a nice lightweight stroller which has many of the features of more bulky strollers. It is great for airplane travel as it folds easily with one hand and is fairly easy to haul around. (Also it fits through the airport Xray scanner which our previous stroller did not). I particularly like the fact the seat reclines, as we can use this stoller for all day outings and my son can still take his naps. The pockets in the canopy are also useful for carrying a few diapers and wipes and a bottle.
Now the bad news...we had a problem with the canopy warping out of shape within 6 weeks of purchase and contacted Maclaren about a replacement, which they told us they would exchange under warranty. It has been over a month and we have yet to receive this. Overall, I really like this stroller but am not sure I would ever purchase another Maclaren product...no one at the warrenty section seems to know what they are doing!
Watch out for the canopy...not geared for warm climates
Further to my review below, we finally got the replacement canopy from Maclaren after 6 weeks only to find that it was also faulty! (Was again warped.) For those living in warm climates, be aware that the sun canopy is quite heat sensitive and in our experience, after even a short walk in the sun, the plastic inserts which give the canopy its shape become soft and malleable. If you fold the stoller while it is still warm and there is ANY kinking, you may find that you have a mis-shapen canopy the next morning when it has cooled down. Don't even think of leaving it in the trunk of a car for any length of time on a warm day. We have taken to waiting till the stroller cools down before folding it whenever possible...it isn't worth the hassle of dealing with Maclaren customer service again! Clearly these stollers were not designed for use in West Coast summers! (Lost a star due to canopy and customer service issues)
