Here are 18 more eye-popping episodes from HBO's shiver-shudder-and-shriek anthology series, adapted from the pages of E.C. Comics' legendary horror comics. Season 2 of Tales from the Crypt doesn't back down from the promise made by its debut season: some of the biggest names in Hollywood do their best in front of and behind the camera to deliver the gory goods, with a healthy dash of Tales' signature coal-black humor. There's Demi Moore as a classic E.C. femme fatale in Howard Deutch's "Dead Right"; Desperate Housewives' Teri Hatcher co-stars with a reanimated corpse in "The Thing from the Grave"; Iggy Pop and the voice of Sam Kinison are featured in a sinister story of music and murder in "For Cryin' Out Loud"; and Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his directorial debut with the macabre "The Switch." Series co-producers Walter Hill and Richard Donner also contribute creepfests, as do horror vets Jack Sholder, Tom Holland, and special effects designer Chris Walas; other performers facing fearsome fates include Patricia Arquette, Don Rickles, Bobcat Goldthwait, Lance Henriksen, and Harry Anderson. The three-disc set definitely delivers a triple treat of terror, but unfortunately, the supplemental features are a little (ahem) anemic, especially in comparison to the solid extras in the first-season set. Here, fans only get a short behind-the-scenes featurette that focuses mainly on actor John Kassir, who provides the Crypt Keeper's voice, and a glimpse at a Tales episode done for radio with Tim Curry. --Paul Gaita

Customer Reviews of Tales From the Crypt - The Complete Second Season

Great box set
I recently purchased Season II and I must say that it is very good. I also have Season I, and that is good too with having just six episodes. Anyway, with all 18 episodes to choose from, I'll pick my favorites (in order of disc) to review about: <
> <
>Disc 1: <
>"Cutting Cards" is about a man named Reno Crevice (Lance Henriksen) who returns to Las Vegas and meets up with his old rival (John Tighe). The play Russian Roulette with a loaded pistol. After neither of them die, they decide to go with a game Of Chop Poker, in which if you have a losing hand, you'll slowly lose your hand. After a night of playing Chop Poker, you'll see why sometimes you just have to fold <
> <
>Disc 2: <
>"For Crying Out Loud" is about a crooked rock promoter named Harry Slash(Lee Arnberg)who reports of hearing things. During a succesful benefit concert and a cameo by Iggy Pop, Slash tries to steal all the money made at the concert, but his something inside him (voiced by the late Sam Kinison) tells him not to do it. After an intrusion by his banker (Katey Segal), Slash kills his banker and stuffs her into a drum case. After stuffing Q-Tips in his ears, people start looking at himin shock.Slash soon begins to go insane and thinks people can hear Kinison. He admits that he killed his banker on stage. But he soon realizes that people were stairing at him for a different reason. <
> <
>"The Ventriloquist's Dummy" is about an old former ventriloquist (Don Rickles), who one day is aproched by an old former fan (Bobcat Goldthwait) who askes him for advice on an upcoming ventriloquist act of his own. After failing miserably, he finds out that someone was murdererd and a dark secrect of his hero. <
> <
>"Fitting Punishment" is about an orphaned boy named Bobby who goes to live with his uncle Ezra, a crooked mortician. After finding out that his uncle steals gold teeth from the cadavers, uses water instead of embalming fluid and orders cheap caskets from Taiwan, Ezra cripples Bobby and later kills him. He tries to put Bobby in a extra casket, but Bobby is too tall, so Ezra decides to cut his feet off. Ezra's cruelty to Bobby soon comes back to haunt him. <
> <
>Disc 3: <
>"Korman's Kalamity" is about an comic book cartoonist (Harry Anderson) who is married to a controling wife who orders him to take fraternity pills. He soon falls in love with a cop, who has been reporting of strange and odd things. After seeing some of Korman's comics, they soon find out that his drawings are coming to life. <
> <
>"Television Terror" is about a sleazy TV host named Horton Rivers (Morton Downey JR) who goes to a modern day house of horrors. A medium tries to tell him that by going inside the house is the most dangerous thing you can possibly do because there are evil spirits that control the house. Horton and his camera man Tripp soon find out that they should have listened. This episode is my personal favorite on all three discs (maybe of all time!) because of the atmosphere generated by the music and by the overall creepy feeling of house. A classic. <

>So there you go. Just my oppions about the this wonderful set. <
>Buy with confidence. I'm 15, just so you know.

Hello, kiddies...
The second season of Tales From the Crypt continues in the same vein as the first with more tales taken from the pages of Tales From the Crypt and other EC horror comics. By being true to the originals the series manages to remain stable without trying to improve and change the format. <
> <
>As is typical, these stories combine horror, humor, gore, justice, fear, sexuality and monsters in an entertaining fashion. Entertaining, that is, if you were ever entertained by the EC comics being showcased here. The shows are very rewatchable which is part of their charm. Nudity is down a bit this season although there are still flashes (both male and female). The story twists are sill there (my favorite being in the first episode where Demi Moore marries a slob who is fated to inherit a fortune and die shortly after). Also typical to the series is the huge amount of talent present from directors to cast. <
> <
>Each story is well presented and true to its original. Many maintain their original time period while others have moved to a more modern time. Included in this season are two important episodes, one involving the Cryptkeeper and one involving the Tales From the Crypt staff. A wonderful tribute to the pre-comics code stories. The stories are presented on three disks with a couple of interesting extras.

Another great season....
I remember watching "Tales From The Crypt" re-runs as a kid, Tuesday nights at prime time on FOX, and then Saturday nights after MadTv (1995). Around this time, I started collecting the VHS compilation tapes until I had all of the volumes (they did not contain all of the episodes of the series). Then the re-runs came back on the Sci-Fi channel, and now they are nowhere to be found on basic cable. So, I am very happy that Warner Bros. is finally releasing all the "Tales From The Crypt" seasons on dvd. <
> <
>Another great season of HBO's "Tales From The Crypt". There was not a season (1-7) that was the best, each season had great episodes and even the episodes that were not great were well worth watching.... <
> <
>My individual episode rating system: <
>4 out of 4 stars is great <
>3 1/2 out of 4 stars is very good <
>3 out of 4 stars is good/enjoyable <
>2 1/2 out of 4 stars is okay/fair/decent/not bad <
>2 out of 4 stars is not very good <
>1 1/2 out of 4 stars is poor <
>1 out of 4 stars is bad <
