Finest in English illustration/animation - for adults too
I am writing this review because I was looking for a DVD copy for my permanent files. I have no children, but I love beautifully illustrated animation, and this is part of the TVC London for Frederick Warne and Co. Peter Rabbit collection for the "World of Peter Rabbit and Friends series". The animated color is outstanding, the details in the flowers - animals, trees - water, English hillside is beautifully and carefully presented. The series starts out with a dramatization of how the story was written by Beatrix Potter before each tape, and they have a lovely actress portraying her - her pet cat, rabbit, and the farmlife around her in the English countryside are also filmed. Also included in this series is one of my particular all-around favorites- "Jemima Puddle-Duck", and my favorite animation tale for Christmas, the beautifully and evocatively illustrated/animated "The Tailor of Gloucester". The cat and mice come completely to life and there are a number of songs during the animation tale, but also a lovely traditional Christmas carol presented in the non-animation section. There is a quiet humanity and gentleness in the presentation of these characters, and the music is sublime. I was hoping truly that this would be released in DVD as something like this needs to be in everyone's DVD collection for memories of a gentle quiet childhood.
