Customer Reviews of Swing Low in Hi Fi: A Look at Monaco
"from the Columbia Record vaults ~ Maestro Faith" Back in 1956 on Columbia Records (CL 796), Maestro Percy Faith arranged and conducted "Swing Low In Hi", featuring negro spirituals, American folk songs and stirring universal melodies of the times ~ this music is timeless, with more appeal to vast audiences of the today than one might think ~ Percy gives each spiritual his special signature arrangements from "ALL GOD'S CHILDREN GOT WINGS", "DEEP RIVER", "EV'RY TIME I FEEL THE SPIRIT", "EZEKIEL SAW THE WHEEL", "GET ON BOARD", "GO DOWN MOSES", "IT'S ME OH LORD", "LITTLE DAVID PLAY ON YOUR HARP", "NOBODY KNOWS THE TROUBLE I'VE SEEN", "ROLL THE OLD CHARIOT ALONG", "SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE A MOTHERLESS CHILD", "STEAL AWAY", SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT", "WERE YOU THERE" ~ over forty three minutes of essential moving music that only the early settlers in this new land of hope and freedom could bring ~ this album has captured the true meaning of what our ancestors must have felt during those trying times of happiness and sorrow, all shown through their music.
The second half of the program on disc #2 is dedicated to "A Look At Monaco", from the full hour show that was telecast on CBS-TV in dazzling color narrated by Princess Grace of Monaco ~ recorded directly from the soundtrack of the special in November of 1962 ~ with some of the best and loveliest melodies composed by Maestro Percy Faith ~ lush instrumentals with thirst quenching strings echoing throughout the palace of Prince Rainier ~ inclusive is their "National Anthem" (Charles Albrecht 1817-1895) ~ Faith conducts the Orchesre National Del L'Opera De Monte-Carlo with his original compositions for the telecast ~ originally released on Columbia Records in 1963 (CL 2019) ~ sounds as fresh today as it was back in the day...gotta love it!
