Perhaps the greatest and most fun space shooter yet.
Super R-Type is extremely addictive. Unlike most space shooters, it is not insanely difficult. Some obsticles may take a few tries, but they are always fun. Basically, you blow up stuff with your spacecraft in a 2-D sidescrolling environment. You pick up the occassional power up, fight the usual boss, and have fun with it as well. There isn't too much to say about this game except that it is the most fun space shooter. If you can find this one for a low price, grab it. You can probably find it at EB Games or GameStop in a buy one get one free deal these days.
Note: I gave this game 5 stars while comparing it to other space shooters. This is not really my all time favorite.

With good reason, the R-Type series has been called one of the finest side-scrolling space shooter titles around. Perhaps this is due to an extremely unique style of gameplay. Now, second game in the series has been rereleased on the SNES! Read on to see how the game measures up.

Graphics: Beautiful yet simple graphics, just the way a side-scroller should be. 4.5/5

Play Control: Simplistic, like most side-scrollers. 3.25/5

Challenge: This is an EXTREMELY HARD game. The fact that there are no continue points in stages doesn't make it any easier. Don't expect a free ride. 4/5

Theme/Fun: It's a fun game, but there's a problem - It's all previously released material (the first stage is new though.) If you want a totally new R-Type adventure, look elsewhere. Still, it's a fun game. 3/5

Sound/Music: Very nice, they contribute to the science fiction feel of the game. 4/5

Storyline: In your spaceship you must destroy an evil empire. It's a story that's been done to death. 3/5

Originality: The play style, which revolves around the force device, is something no other shooter series has been able to match. 4/5

Replay Value: Sadly not too high (getting high scores is the only reason to play more than once.) 2/5

Overall Score: 4/5
I LOVE R-Type games, but I suggest passing this by in favor of the vastly superior R-Type III, also for the Super Nintendo.
