Customer Reviews of Super Mario Land
Great gameplay makes this game Don't be fooled by this game's relatively crude graphics. Since this is a first-generation Gameboy game, I can let that slide. The music and sound f/x are good for the GB, but what makes this game shine is the gameplay...classic Super Mario gameplay with some new ideas (traveling via submarine and airplane). The last fight (the one with Tatanga) is more of a shooter, but still this is a very fun game. A word of advice...do NOT be fooled by the crude graphics! This game is a blast!
Pretty cool game
This was one of the first titles for the original Game Boy, and it's a pretty good one too. For the most part, it plays like a side-scrolling Mario game, but there are several differences:
-Like most Mario games, you get a Mushroom to become big, and then a flower for projectiles. However, instead of fireballs, you blast these black balls that bounce off of walls and the ground
-You get 1-ups from hearts, not mushrooms
-Stars make you invincible, but if you miss them, they can fall through the ground. And instead of the normal invincibility tune, it play's the can-can song (I think that's what it's called)
-Each of the four worlds consists of three stages, the end of the third having a boss enemy.
-Two of the stages are scrolling shooter-types, in which you are controlling a submarine or airplane
-The main villain in this game is Tatanga the Spacelord, not Bowser. Also, you are trying to rescue Princess Daisy, not the usual Peach/Toadstool
-Your projectiles collect coins if they hit them
-The turtle enemies are in this game, but instead of retreating to their shells after being stomped, the shells explode right after
-Most enemies in this game appear ONLY in this game
Don't let all this fool you, even if it's a departure from the normal settings, it's still cool. However, it does suffer from a good deal of the Game Boy's problems, such as blurring and stiff play control. However, if you can find a copy for fairly cheap, it would be worth buying.
its sooooooooo fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think that this game is really like an expert version of super mario brothers 1 because it has almost the same graphics.it seems like a good game because mario gets to fly and swim in a sub!i give it 3 stars cause 1 it is hard to fire fireballs 2nd when you jump on a koopa the shell [Explodes]!(...)
