Customer Reviews of Super Castlevania IV
A Super Nintendo classic In 1991, Nintendo Released its Super Nintendo Entertainment System gaming console. At long last, Nintendo had a system capable of competing with Sega's sixteen-bit Genesis. And of course, Konami was going to take advantage of Nintendo's new system by bringing their classic Castlevania franchise into the nineties. How does the first sixteen-bit entry in the series, Super Castlevania IV, measure up? Read on and find out.
PROS:
-PLAY CONTROL IS MUCH BETTER THAN IN THE NES GAMES. You now have midair jump control, as well as a separate button to use your secondary weapon. Also, the control as a whole seems much smoother than it did on the NES.
-THE GRAHPICS LOOK GREAT AS FAR AS EARLY SUPER NINTENDO GAMES GO. Many of the early Super Nintendo games had excellent graphics, but this game featured some of the best. Hell, this game looked better than many of the games that were coming out when the system was on its way out!
-THERE ARE SEVERAL STAGES, EACH OF WHICH IS LENGTHY AND PROVIDES A CHALLENGE. If you're a fan of side-scrolling platformers and you want one that will challenge you, this one would be a good bet.
-EXCELLENT SOUND AND MUSIC. On the NES, the Castlevania series excelled in this areas. On the Super Nintendo, it does so once again.
CONS:
-THE GAME LACKS THE PATH CHOOSING AND SPIRITUAL HELPERS THAT MADE CASTLEVANIA III ON THE NES SO GREAT. I was really hoping to see these features in this game, but they didn't make it. Oh, well.
-THE STORYLINE IS PRETTY WEAK - THE GAME IS MERELY A RETELLING OF THE STORY FIRST TOLD IN THE ORIGINAL GAME. Konami wasn't too careful with their storylines back in the old days, but most hardcore gamers don't really pay attention to this sort of thing.
-ALTHOUGH A GOOD GAME, IT'S NOTHING REVOLUTIONARY TO THE SERIES. Basically, this game is pretty similar to its NES counterparts. If you liked them, you'll like this, but if not, you won't really find anything new here.
OVERALL:
Overall this is a very good first attempt to bring the Castlevania series into a sixteen-bit world. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's an excellent game nonetheless. No fan of side-scrolling platformers should be without this game.
A challenging title that remakes the first
Like many early SNES games this one basically was a similar remake of the first. Once again the player controls Simon Belmont (Arguably the most famouse) as he once again venutres into Draculas castle to battle his nemesis. THis time the castle is much larger with many more traps and dangers awaiting (To include a quadruple boss fight in the end).
The game layout is level based however within the levels certain routes can be taken, not always but sometimes. The bosses varry in difficulty and follow the tradition of many action platformers, the easier the level the harder the boss. One key difference between this and many other castlevania titles is that in one level (I think level 3) the room rotates which takes full use of the whip skills. This idea was all the rage in early SNES action platformers as games like Super Ghouls and Ghost and Super MArio World also used this technique.
OVerall this is a solid action platformer that is challenging to the gamer, but fun at the same time.
