Customer Reviews of Stripes (Extended Cut)
'Stripes' (Tristar) Running time: 106 minutes Review number 77.Good,timeless 1981 smash comedy movie.Saw it at the drive-in at least twice when it first came out.Cab driver John Winger(Bill Murray)and his slacker pal Russell Ziskey(Harold Ramis)are at a total dead end in their jobs,so the two goofball/party animals decide to join the U.S.Army.Of course, not knowing that they're in for. Many memorable scenes and twists here.My favorites are when Sgt.Hulka(Warren Oates)tries to motivate the new recruits by commenting,"We'll see JUST how far Sgt.Hulka is able to shove his left foot up your ass, come tomorrow morning".Another line that lives in my memory forever more is when one of the new recruits,Pyscho(Conrad Dunn)introduces himself by saying,"Hi,I'm Psycho.Any of you fruits touch my stuff or call me Francis,I'll kill you".A simply HILARIOUS movie.Rent it tonight.
That's The Fact Jack
Long overdue special edition of the classic comedy. One of Bill Murray's finest performances. The supporting cast is good also.
<
>The 18 minutes of deleted scences are for the most part entertaining except for the "South America" part which kind of
<
>drags on a bit, you can see why it was cut from the final film.
<
>The 2 documentaries are very insightful as is the commentary track by director Ivan Reitman and producer Dan Goldberg.
<
>One slip up on the commentary track is twice Ivan Reitman mentions the film was shot in 1982 when in fact it was released in 1981, so it was probably shot in 1980. His memory can't be that bad you would hope. Another major flub has to do with the the fact on the back of the dvd where it mentions the extras, it doesn't even mention that there is a commentary track included. A major overlook by the studio since most people look for that feature when deciding wheather to purchase special edition dvds. So for those of you looking for a commentary track, it is in there with the other special features.

>Back to the movie itself, The picture quality is great and the dolby 5.1 surround is good. If you are a fan of this movie you need to have this in your collection.
Worth the $$$$
I enjoyed the Extended Cut of Stripes. I thought the documentary was pretty good. However, the "very little" portion of the documentary with Bill Murray was a letdown. Apparently the studio knew this too as they made a point to mention on the back of the DVD that the documentary included Bill Murray. "Me doth think Columbia protest too much!" If they didn't think Bill's portion "stunk," then there would have been no need to mention it seeing as Bill Murray was the star of the film! Everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves. Ivan Reitman's commentary was informative and the deleted scenes were interesting, either viewed separately or in the extended version of the film. This movie is part of what I call the "Big 4" of late 70's, early 80's comedies. Animal House, The Blues Brothers and Caddyshack are the other 3. The reason I give this DVD 4 stars is the previously mentioned documentary and the "stupid" sleeve the DVD came in. Why do these studios insist on releasing DVD'S in a sleeve that is exactly the same as the cover? Whenever they do this, it is at the "expense" of a Chapter Insert and Notes about the film. Rain Man, Apollo 13 and Fast Times At Ridgemont High have had the same problem in their recent editions.
