Customer Reviews of Still Screaming
Better than ever! Like the previous reviews, I can only say buy this! It's good original metal from a genre that is truly alive! I find it refreshing to listen to a band that puts intense thought into it's songs, GHB and Eden Massacre are a couple of the best tracks I have heard in years. Eden Massacre has intense feeling, especially vocally and there are very few artists that can write and compose material of this calibre, especially on such a sensitive issue like terrorism. The guitar playing is excellent, an original style of play reminiscent of Roth with a touch of Hendrix and Van Halen though Pete Haworth's play as a riff builder and soloist is definitely unique and realistically there are not many guitar players around that can play like this. To sum up, Still Screaming for me gets 10 out of 10.
Legend - Still Screaming
This has been a bold step for the UK's "Legend". A reunion album nearly 20 years on, amidst a new audience and new standards. Having read the tales of how the album came about, and only two of the original band members names being mentioned, namely guitarist Pete Haworth and vocalist Mike Lezala, I was intrigued to hear what this record would deliver given the reputation of their early work. I was not disappointed.
As uncompromisingly promised, the sound is modern, the production solid and the use of occasional synthetic drums and sequencing apparent. Gone is the high band fuzz of their early recordings, yet at the same time it sounds timeless, as if it is natural third album. The songs are as heavy as hell but still retain their trademark gut wrenching emotion and melody that I just haven't heard sound this way before. Haworth's guitar is flawless and Lezala's vocals are perfectly unique. Of the eleven songs on the album it really is difficult to find a bad one. Yes there are a couple that don't hit the top mark, but overall they are all special, a rarity in this age of manufactured metal. The lyrics are as perceptive as 20 years ago, although I'm not convinced that such a sombre approach to content rests as easily these days as it did then. Standout tracks have to be "Eden Massacre" and "Maybe This Time", two songs which seem to bring everything that Legend represent together. But for me, the ultimate track has to be "Hiroshima 2003" which takes the original 4 minute classic from the first self-titled album and turns it into an 8 minute masterpiece.
Original
Recently passed this album and it rocks! Neat fret work, original style and sound. One of the better bands from the recently re-surged NWOBHM movement for some years.
