Customer Reviews of Step Across The Border: Music For The Film
Excellent intro to a great musician If you're reading this you've probably heard of Fred Frith; if you haven't, be aware that he's one of the most creative and protean musicians in the world. Guitarist and violinist in the mighty Henry Cow, he's gone on to make a kazillion solo albums and has guest-spotted with more artists than I care to remember, including a stint playing bass in John Zorn's thrash-jazz band Naked City. This is the soundtrack to a documentary about him, and a great all-round introduction. There's everything here from Third World foot-stomping dance pieces to solo guitar improvisation to all-out noise terror. Frith fans will have a little of it already, but by no means most. A wonderful album. Wonder what the film's like.
