Customer Reviews of Steinhausen Limited Edition Classic Gold Automatic Watch (AR018)
Beware -- low quality, poor customer service Bought two of these direct, both as gifts. The first one failed the first day -- stops running on the wrist. The second one lasted a week or so before it also became unreliable. Losses of 10 minutes to an hour or more per day. Customer service does nothing more than lecture about using THEIR winder and you may have to set it every day. Trying to get them to take back their product after 30 days? Forget it. Call your card company for a chargeback, then they'll listen to you. Junk.
Extremely Disapointed
I actually ordered two of these watches after having seen the advertisements in The Robb Report magazines. I ordered them as birthday presents; 1 for my father and 1 for my best friend. I have to admit right up front that I was careless in my purchases in that I did not investigate the company before ordering. I was taken in by the add and the fact that it was listed in a "prestigious" magazine. Only after they were ordered did I get "curious" and search on google for reviews. Lesson learned the hard way. Sure enough I noticed that my friend was never wearing his watch. He told me that it would quit working inexplicably even when he was wearing it. I told him that he needed to pre-wind the watch and when he told me he had I actually did not believe him and borrowed his watch for a day. Yep. The watch would just stop cold for no reason even when on my wrist. Now I got a call from my father. He had Loved the watch and gotten several compliments on it. He told me that the hand for the day dial had fallen off. Wow! two watches two complete failures. Well they have replaced the watches and I received them in the mail today, but so what! After reading the reviews and having my own experiences I am embarrassed to give them the watches. I thought it was a nice gift but the joke was on me. Do your homework, don't get suckered.
Ladies Marquis Doesn't keep time.
I purchase a Steinhausen Ladies Marquis watch with a winder for my wife for her birthday from Gadget World. Following the sketchy instructions provided with the watch and winder we put the watch in service. We found that the watch would stop and needed to be reset nearly every day. I contancted Gadget World by email complaining that the watch would not run. I was advised to contact their technical assistance. Upon contacting technical assistance I was told that the watch did not run properly because I had failed to put it in service properly. I was advised that the winder had to be in 'mode 3'. I was assured that the watch would keep accuratae time if I would only put it in service by winding it 8 to 10 times in the beginning and then place it on the winder in mode 3 when it was not being worn.
<
>At that time I allowed the watch to run down and put it back in service by winding the stem 10 times. My wife wore the watch that day and in the evening the watch was placed on the winder in mode 3. Each day thereafter my wife would wear the watch for at least 10 hours each day before placing it on the winder in mode 3 over night. After a few days we noted that the watch began gaining time, as much as 5 minutes in 24 hours. I again contacted Gadget World via email and after several days received an email telling me that they would replace the watch if I would return it and that I would be responsible for transportation in both directions. I was advised to contact technical support via their 800 number.
<
>Upon contacting technical support for return information I was first advised that I had contacted the wrong number. The tech Support staffer then spent several minutes telling me that I had not put the watch in service properly. After assuring him that I was complaining because the watch gained time after having been put in service per their verbal instructions I was advised that I should not use a atomic time piece to set the watch. I was told that I should set and check the watch using a analog wall clock with sweep second hand. According to the tech rep, my atomic clocks, Seth Thomas mantle clocks and grandfather clock were all unsuitable for guaging the accuracy of this watch.
<
>I was advised that the watch was '1923 technology' and did not 'maintain a reserve'. I was advised over and over again that this watch was made exactly like the 1923 Stauer and would run only while it was on the wrist or the winder. At asked the tech rep, "are you telling me that this watch will not keep accurate time?". I was never able to get a clear response to that question.
<
>After much heated discussion, I am now awaiting a email that will provide me with the information that I need to return the watch for a replacement.
<
>I would advise anyone considering the purchase of Steinhausen watch take time to visit their local jeweler/watchmaker.
