Customer Reviews of Starrcade '98
This is Starrcade 97,not 98 Id just like to inform everybody that this is Starrcade 97,not 98.Starrcade 97 had Sting vs Hogan in the much anticpated WCW title match.Starrcade 98 had Kevin Nash vs Goldberg for the WCW title with interference from Scott Hall. And Im just gonna say for the record that Starcade 99 had Goldberg and Bret Hart for the W.C.W title in the "battle to end the milenium".So remeber this is Starrcade 97,not Starrcade 98!
Highs, lows, then it plundges dramatically.
This video can be summed up very quickly, if you like listening to dusty rhodes babble and fumble up on the mic you'll enjoys as he goes overboard about just how important this event is and quote "fate has brought us here today for this very reason" yeah I'm sure. After a few minutes I found myself blocking out the announcers and watching teh matches which are good with DDP and Henning being very good but as usual the main events in WCW are terrible hogan get a clean win over sting and then bret hart starts the match over again for no reason and hogan finally job's doesn't make much sense but then again neither did WCW. At the end all teh wrestlers come out from the back and celebrate, like I'm sure they really wanted to miss there flights to be there from that. Speaking of which if you watch the proceading WCW SUPERBRAWL you'll find bret hart turns on Sting, as Tony Schavonie yells "It was a plot from the get go" which leaves you thinking what was the point?
The BIGGEST Disappointment EVER
FYI, this is Starrcade 1997, not Starrcade 1998.
As you can see, I gave this show *, because that's the lowest I could go. Believe me, that is an extremely generous rating.
This is the first PPV I ever saw, and I have not seen it ever since, nor will I ever. This PAY-per-view was awful. I had only been watching professional wrestling for a month, and I was only TEN years old at the time, but I knew that it was horrible. The Sting/Hogan "match" is a farce with its screwjob ending and the mistakes of the referee.
The best match was the opener by default. It was a Cruiserweight title match between Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko, two of the finest wrestlers ever. But they seemed to have it turned off on that night. It's a *** match if you're generous.
What made this show so utterly hurrendous is that this was built up like a freakin' Wrestlemania! There was, from my estimation, 50,000 people that attended the show. The crowd was dead until the 6TH "match." There is a reason why they were dead. In the first 5 matches, the bad guys won and there was no classic wrestling action either. Another problem was that two matches that were supposed to happen didn't happen until the next month at Souled Out 1998, which I highly recommend over this atrocity.
Please, do NOT waste away three hours or any amount of money on this garbage masquarading as "Professional Wrestling." You'll never get it back.
