Customer Reviews of Star Trek - Deep Space Nine, Episode 122: Empok Nor
O'Brien and his crew are trapped on a station with a killer Chief O'Brien needs Cardassian materials to fix Deep Space Nine, so he leads a salvage mission to an abandoned Cardassian space station in Episode 122, "Empok Nor" (Story by Bryan Fuller, Teleplay by Hans Beilmer, Aired May 19, 1997). Garak, along to help get past the Cardassian security measures, finds a couple of stasis tubes that had recently been activated. Since they are large enough to contain adult Cardassians, he is suspicious, especially when the runabout drifts away from the station and blows up. Now the cat and mouse game between the two Cardassians and O'Brien's crew is on.
However, "Empok Nor" ends up being about a bit more than a stalking game, because there is a particular twist in the story that takes it to another level. The basic idea, of a killer stalking O'Brien's crew on desolate Cardassian space station (i.e., the DS9 set with the lights on low), is good enough for an episode, but then we get something that changes the situation into something more than kill or be killed. There is also more interplay between O'Brien (Colm Meaney) and Garak (Andrew J. Robinson) than we usually see in the series, which plays well in the episode.
