Customer Reviews of Star Fox without Rumble Pak
Awesome Space Combat Star Fox 64 is one of the most fun games I've ever played. It was one of the first N64 games to utilize the Rumble Pak (it was also one of the first to include voices for all the characters). The premise of the game is simple: you, as Star Fox, are trying to save the solar system from the evil Andross. To do this, you hop in your space ship and blow tons of enemy crafts to bits. The game is simple but fun and can be replayed over and over. I've played through Star Fox 64 more times than any other game I've ever owned.
The Good:
The Gameplay is fast paced, simple and fun. Action packed- there is never a dull moment.
The controls are tight and are perfect.
The level design is excellent.
The force feedback through the Rumble Pak makes the game feel more intense.
The replay value is through the roof- there are many different ways to get to the final boss.
All characters have voices!
Lots of Secrets!
The Bad:
The "multiplayer" game is really really bad. It's so bad that it is not worth playing. But that's what Goldeneye is for, right?
The graphics, by today's standards, are outdated
Some of the voices are pretty annoying (Slippy in paticular)
This game is nothing short of a masterpiece. I still play Starfox 64 today, and it's just as much fun as when I got it 6 years ago. Everything seems perfectly tweaked and just right. A game for the ages.
Both good and bad
The one player mode is excellent. The controls are easy to master and the game itself is easy. The graphics are excellent and the music is sweet! The characters actually talk (Unlike on the SNES). This is a game that will last a long time.
Too bad multiplayer isn't the same. The mode is fun, but suffers from lack of options. The character you play has depends as to what port your controller is plugged into. And the only four characters are the starfox team (Fox, Slippy, Peppy and Falco). There are only three levels and two powerups. However, by beating the game on higher difficulties, you can unlock the tank and the ablitly to play the characters outside of the vehicles to supplement the Ar-Wing. The multiplayer mode is fun, but only with at least one other person. For better multiplayer mayhem, get goldeneye or Super Smash Brothers. Mario Kart isn't bad either.
All in all, starfox delivers with a spectacular single player mode. However, it fails to hit that same mark with it's multiplayer mode. Let's hope Nintendo fixes that with a sequel.
The Horror! The HORROR!!!
I decided to rent this game after learning about the not-so-cute-anymore Fox McCloud (Star Fox) from Super Smash Brothers. Starfox 64 turned out to be the worst game I've ever played in my life! There is basically no plot to the game, it's like Star Wars with animals. The small amount of storyline makes no sense what so ever (Lylat System, G-Diffusers, mechanical flying apes, silver rings in the asteroid belt; I DON'T GET IT)!!! Even the technical aspects of the game stunk. The graphics were TERRIBLE (I've never played on a SNES before, but from what I've heard, this game looks like it should have been for SNES). The gameplay its self is extremely hard! I could never get past the third level! Sometimes I almost ended up bending the game in frustration. And some of the aspects of this game (especially the villans) were disturbing and downright terrifying. After playing this game for only two days (I couldn't bring myself to tolerate it any longer) I had nightmares for a week! If you're even considering buying or renting this game, DON'T!!! But if you must know what this game is like, watch a Star Wars movie. If you don't like the movie, you definitely won't like this game.
