This title has bright graphics in six well-developed worlds, each with several subworlds, including bogs, deserts, and ice worlds. Unlike some action games, in Spyro the Dragon the enemies are more fun than frightening. In the Peace Keepers world, for example, Spyro must burn down the monster soldiers' tent, sending one of the minions running out, quaking with fear or, if you're lucky, dropping his drawers and shooting a moon.
Spyro's movements (fire breathing, gliding, jumping, and climbing) require entry-level gaming skills. For this reason, Spyro the Dragon is an excellent title for youngsters or less experienced players, who want to play without having to master complex movement combinations. --Kasty Thomas
Pros:
- Large worlds provide hours of game playing
- Variety of scenarios
- Engaging graphics
- Low game skill requirements may prove less challenging for expert players

Customer Reviews of Spyro The Dragon
Spyro = the best game character since Sonic. If it weren't for my fiancé, I probably wouldn't have given this game a chance. When it was first released, it didn't look that good. All I got from commercials was a little dragon ran around and burned sheep. Well it's a good thing I got to play this- it's one of the better games I've played in the last 8 years. If you get past the bad camera angles and somewhat badly animated enemies, you get a game that really surpassed anyone's expectations of it. Spyro is an all-around fun game for all ages. I'm 19 and go through the whole thing from the beginning every once in a while.
This is a very easy game to get into, and surprisingly addictive. Even my idiot little brother, who is 7 and only plays bad wrestling games managed to go through the first world with no problem. What happened is all the dragons except Spyro have been crystalized by Gnasty Gnorc, and it's up to our star to save them and take out Gnorc's muppet-ass. Using fire breath, head-butts, and your trusty dragonfly: Sparx, this won't be a problem. Saving dragons, collecting gems and eggs, taking out the bosses, none of that gets boring. For once, I enjoyed going from each area instead of getting bored and going "when is this going to end?". The game doesn't keep track of how long you've been playing, but I think it took maybe 4-5 hours to beat, and depending on how you play, it could take another hour or two to get 100% (collecting everything).
A nice thing is that loading times are very short. When going from level to level, it only takes seconds, and we see Spyro flying through the sky to his destination. It makes transition a lot smoother than most games from the same generation. You really can't go wrong with Spyro. It has some of that early/mid-90's magic that we got from games like Donkey Kong Country, Rocket Knight Adventure, and a few others. It's an instant classic, and the sequels only get better. Well, except Enter of the Dragonfly. Ignore that.
Better than you might think
When I first saw "Spyro The Dragon" commercials on Tv, I thought it would just be a game that was only for kids. When my little brother and sister got the game for Christmas, I played it and found out I was wrong. It's a lot of fun and it's not childish at all. It's a game that any video game fan can enjoy.
Spyro takes on a bunch of enemies while he tries to rescue all his dragon buddies in the form of huge statues. "Spyro The Dragon" is a fast paced action/adventure game with some of the best graphics on the Playstation. It takes the game a long time to even start to get old because it's always fun to play. I recommend "Spyro The Dragon" for any video gamer.
