Customer Reviews of Spin
Nice album, very Savage Garden! After Savage Garden broke up, I was really disappointed, 'cause I loved them; especially their first album. I thought I'd never hear them again, but here Darren Hayes is! He's pretty good, though some of his songs are a bit unsuitable for young kids (the meaning of their lyrics). He has the great voice that can change from a typical boy band-voice to the Savage Garden one.
1)Strange Relationship: A cool song and one of the best on the album. I really like it!
2)Insatiable: A nice song, though the meaning of the chorus is a little sick. All-in-all a good song.
3)Heart Attack: Intense and cool. Darren is good; real good!
4)I Miss You: One of the only soft songs in the album, it's cute.
5)Creepin' Up On You: An amazing song, one of the best.
6)Dirty; A nice song, getting back at the ultra-sophisticated girlfriend!
7)Crush (1980 Me): A very cute song!
8)Good Enough: A touching song with nice lyrics.
9) Can't Get Enough Of You: For the guy madly in love with his girl.
10)Like It Or Not: Another song for the finicky girlfriend.
11)What You Like: A cute song; what every girl wants her boyfriend to know.
12)Spin: THE best song on the album! Very good for dancing, the music is amazing.
13)Insatiable (Pablo Club Mix): This mix is really good; better than the original if possible.
Darren Hayes has an amazing voice and I'm glad he came back, though I think he and the other guy from Savage Garden were really good and it's a pity they split up, 'cause they were a great team.
What You Like.....
Whenever I like a musical duo, I always wonder how much each member contributes to the creation of the finished product. With the release of Darren Hayes's solo debut album "Spin", we have the answer to the question, at least as it pertains to the now-defunct Australian pop group 'Savage Garden'.
"Spin" is a very *produced* album. I don't know how else to describe it. Darren collaborated with the producer of Savage Garden's second (and final) album, Walter Afanasieff, and the results are as one would expect. There are different attempts at style within the CD, but the production is always very glossy. The overall sound is pretty cohesive, and I found it to be good pop music.
The styles range from Michael Jackson-like fast R&B, to lustful pop, to a good attempt at 80's sounding synth-pop. Afanasieff keeps the production rolling along well, and Darren's voice grows stronger with each progressive album he puts out. My favorite songs were "Spin", "What You Like", "I Can't Ever Get Enough Of You", and "Insatiable", as they are the most catchy and well-done. All the other tracks are good, too, except maybe for "Heart Attack" --- if I want a Michael Jackson record, I'll go buy one, thanks.
Back to my opening paragraph. What this album lacks are deep lyrics. If you're a Savage Garden fan looking for a fix, "Spin" will do you o.k., but don't expect anything along the lines of "To the Moon and Back" or "Crash & Burn". Those must have been Daniel Jones's overtones. This album is pure sexy pop confection. Take it for what it is.
I know I did. And enjoyed it.
Amazing.
This album is good, but it's not as personal as I would have liked it. It was Darrens personal "wall". I believe the Tension and the Spark will change all that. Anyway onto review.
Strange Relationship: a good first song for the album. it's just about the aggravating qualities of a relationship.
Insatiable: the first song I fell in love with. It's very romantic.
Heart Attack: good
I miss you : incrediably sweet, with enchanting lyrics
creepin up on you: catchy song. but definatley a stalker one
dirty: very sexual, loving that laugh at the end
crush (1980me) : ah a homage to darrens favorite year! 1983.
good enough: one of the more personal songs. he lets us into his life, then and now.
i can't ever get enough of you: amazing love songs, with amazing lyrics
like it or not: sad but very soothing
what you like: my personal favorite. The lyrics are picturesque
spin: he makes good points here. I love it
