Customer Reviews of Sony 128 MB USB 2.0 Micro Vault
Fragile... depends on your definition. Yes, it's ridiculously overpriced. I got this as a gift and didn't expect much out of it--the same you would expect from any USB drive. But I felt compelled to praise it after surviving what I'm sure almost no other USB drive can: a ride in the washing machine. That's right, my Micro Vault lived after 30 minutes submerged in water. I'm not arguing that this is a selling point for a drive that costs two or three times as much as its competition, but still, maybe you are the kind of person like me to forget where you put your unreplaceable possesions.
Fragile and Overpriced
I've used both the 64MB and 128MB version. The Sony Micro Vault is way overpriced in comparision to its competetion. I can get twice the storage capacity on a San Disk Mini Cruzer for the same price. The Mini Cruzer is built a lot better too. The Micro Vault has a cheap plastic case and everyone I've use has eventually pulled apart exposing the board inside. This is the only drive I've had do this. Its just crappy design, trying to make it look cool at the cost of durability. It isn't the most compatible drive either. Works fine in XP but on every 98 or ME system I've used it on driver installation has been hell, requiring multiple reboots to make the machine detect it. The Mini Cruzer has been an easy install on older OS for me.
Overall it does what its suppose to but there are far more reliable, far cheaper, far more compatible and far more durable drives out there.
Great product for the organizationally challenged
This product is SO convenient. Unlike my first USB keychain drive, it fits into every USB port I've run across without needing an extension cord or adapter.
If you are a person who needs to use several different computers in the course of a day or week, and you never seem to have the right files with you, I highly recommend this drive. I just wish I'd bought the 256MB version--maybe next payday! :)
