Your Mom Is Smart From the trade reviews, you might think that Your Mom is a beer swilling bunch of stoners, doing the rock-and-roll thing to avoid flipping burgers. You would be wrong. Yes, they're loud. Yes, they thrash around. They also know what they're doing.
Your Mom is cut from the same cloth as Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, Zeppelin, Cobain. The songs are well written, and with direction and purpose. The album showcases their talents; mixed in with the roar of guitars, pounding drums, screams and crashes, is a musical vision. They could probably pull off Backstreet Boys bubblegum pop; they're certainly smart enough (maybe too smart) and talented enough. Instead, the energy is channeled into speaking from the heart.
I saw them play in a small club in Santa Monica; the house was packed, and they played amazingly. The album captures some of this experience. In the words of Sid Vicious, "do yourself a favor" and catch them live.
