Valuable inventions for today’s busy parents, car seat/carrier combinations, such as the Graco Snugride, enable Mom to move a sleeping baby from car to house (or vice versa) without having to wake him. An adjustable car seat base installs and remains in the car for convenience. The carrier snaps into the base and unclips by lifting the lever behind its top. A level indicator on the side ensures parents that the car seat is locked into its base at the correct angle. The car seat is equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchor and Tether for Children), which is the current safety standard for motor vehicle travel. Other safety features include a five-point harness with a two-piece chest clip to hold baby snugly inside. Harness slots at two different heights allow the seat to grow with baby. A built-in 180-degree adjustable canopy shades baby from behind or rotates forward to darken in front of his face while sleeping; however, it is not wide enough to cover both areas at once. The ergonomic handle offers a comfortable grip and rotates to an upright position for carrying (although it sometimes gets hung up on the canopy during rotation). Comfort features for baby include a machine-washable padded seat and head support in a black-and-tan plaid accented with coordinating black cotton and tan mesh fabrics. MINE WAS DEFECTIVE!!!!!!!! I GIVE IT A "0" After using this seat infrequently for four months we discovered that it had a 1" LONG PLASTIC SPIKE about the diameter of a pencil in the lower back portion of the seat. Our baby had always hated the seat and cried and screamed whenever when we put him in it. As he grew older and more alert his hatred of the seat intensified to screaming even at the sight of it and we had to keep it hidden from him when not in use. We had no idea what the true problem was and thought he was just being a normal baby as we've heard many stories of babies who have the same reaction to being in their car seats. It never occurred to us that the seat could be injuring our child. One day when he was wearing a regular shirt instead of a onesie, as I lifted him out of the seat his shirt lifted and I saw a horribly painful looking red indent in his lower back. I was absolutely shocked and horrified. A week earlier I had noticed a small hole on his back and was mystefied thinking it must have been a bug bite. I have reported this to Graco and have been sent a refund check for the value of the seat. But that hardly makes it up to my child for the pain and suffering he endured in the seat. Also, I have reported this to the NHTSA and they are investigating. If we had ever been in an accident my child could have received a serious back injury. If you own a Graco infant seat please check under the covering to make sure it does not have a spike in it that is sticking into your baby.
