Customer Reviews of Snapshots
Eleanor McEvoy and matters of the heart. Eleanor McEvoy deals in many matters of the heart. Hers, as well as others. At first listen, this cd seems to be filled with a lot of melancholy tunes. On the surface, that may appear to be true, however, on closer examination of the songs they appear to be an observation of life. The good, the bad, the ugly, and all that goes along with it. The first cut, "There's More To This Woman" has the line "There's more to this woman than a woman's heart" a reference to her first hit "Only A Woman's Heart", and indeed there is quite a bit more to her than just her heart. The sadly titled "Please Heart, You're Killing Me" is actually an almost fun latinesque rhythm number. From cocaine abuse (Territory of Poets), alcoholism (She Had It All), and eating diosrders (the sad but musically brilliant "Sophie"), to unrequited love (Did You Tell Him?), this cd would almost seem to have you looking for the nearest gas oven to put your head in. However, even in the bleakest moments, this album has a musically dramatic flair that lifts the spirit despite the tragic lyrics. And the last song "Easy To Lose Hope" encourages us that all is not lost-"But we can't lose hope, and we cannot hide away. We can overcome but we must be strong, and we must not be afraid." This is the third of Eleanor McEvoy's albums and I can't wait to see where her heart will lead us next.
Eleanor is the Best Artist You May Never Have Heard
I always preferred Eleanor's first self-titled CD to her second, but this has become my new favorite. Intelligent lyrics and a magnificent voice. If you like Sarah McLachlan or Sinead Lohan, you should do yourself a real favor and buy this CD. Did You Tell Him has been released as a single in Ireland and Europe, and Please Heart, You're Killing Me as a single in the USA. I would say that both are standout tracks, but there is not a weak song on the CD, so it's hard to choose favorites.
Follow up to 'What's Following Me'
I love this album, every song on it. It's very heartfelt. If that sounds familiar, it's what I said about her previous album. It took a few listens, but it has won me over. I have to say, I get a bit weepy on the song 'Please Heart, You're Killing Me'. It's such a sweet song, and so full of what we have all felt, and it's funny too. So, I ordered 'Yola' today. I look forward to it's arrival.
