The Alan Shepard 'Moon Shot' is a replica of the most famous amateur golfer and his legendary swing. This Apollo 14 Commander is hand-cast and hand painted to exquisitely recreate an important (and fun) moment in Americas adventures in space. Artists worked to replicate in intricate detail this famous scene. The astronauts face shield is 24K gold plated to capture the true reflective surface of the real life shield. The lunar surface base is adorned with a special silver plaque. Each 11-inch statue comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity and an Apollo 14 Patch. Limited edition of 3,000 pieces worldwide. We are coming upon the 35th anniversary of when the most famous amateur golfer Astronaut Alan B. Shepard, made that legendary golf shot on the moon. Shepard described the distance of his moon shot as 'miles and miles and miles'. He made two one-handed golf swings with a rigged up six iron, one connected and sent the ball flying across the moon. Although Shepard fired off those two golf balls in moon gravity which is about one-sixth of earth's, the ball did not actually go miles and miles. In reality they went 200 to 400 yards (still an impressive distance). Alan Shepard was the first American in space and commander of Apollo 14. He was the oldest astronaut to walk on the moon, which is why his back-up crew characterized him as a grey bearded Wiley Coyote. In total, Shepard spent 33 hours on the surface of the moon, which included time for a couple of golf shots that were out of this world!
