The film, while occasionally gory (as one should expect from a movie about a headless horseman), is not terribly frightening, although it is suspenseful. Both Depp and Ricci are convincing, and the art direction and production values give the village its harsh feel. Toward the end, once the secrets are revealed, the film does slow down; however, this stylistic horror film provides many tricks and even more treats. --Jenny Brown

Customer Reviews of Sleepy Hollow
SUPERB TIM BURTON INTERPRETATION! This film is another in a long line of excellent Tim Burton film's. His interpretation of the Washington Irving classic is definitive: At least for me. With Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, and Christopher Walken as the Headless Horseman, this film couldn't have been any better. And the supporting cast of Christina Ricci; the malevolent Miranda Richardson, and the great actor Michael Gambon, to name just a few of the characters in the film, give this classic Irving tale a well-deserved place in the annals of great and entertaining films. <

>I really liked the surrealistic vision that Tim Burton gives to the village of "Sleepy Hollow." I don't know anyone who has not seen the film, or even own's a copy of the film, but if you have not seen it, please do. It is really a great film. And Christopher Walken as the Headless Horseman is diabolical as ever. This entire film; acting; plotline; musical score; and more importantly the 'VISUALS' of the film itself were incredibly great. Highly, highly recommended! [Stars: 5+]
Here The Genius of Tim Burton Is In The Visuals
This film is a delight to LOOK AT as well as watch. It's one of those times where the visual effects department got every detail right and in this movie the finished product is a creation of authentically glorious scenery wedded to a plot that is nothing but creepy fun. The atmosphere of gloom and brooding menace amid tangled forests and low night skies heightens the sense of enclosure and underscores the fact that the cursed town of Sleepy Hollow is a hamlet under siege. Joining the real star here, which is the visuals, Johnny Depp (who has said he played the part of "Inspector Crane" in the manner of a skittish teenaged girl) is great as always in this his third collaboration with Burton. Backing up Depp are Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson, Jeffrey Jones (Ed Rooney, himself!) and an artistically under-used Christopher Walken. Be ready for a few minor gross-outs and a couple of "jumper" moments but mainly Burton relies on a sound storyline and beautiful backgrounds to host his re-telling of a classic American ghost story. In my opinion it's worth watching again and again...
Bloody, rich, dark and fabulous!
10 mammoth stars, carved in opal and showered with emeralds. Masterfully good work by Tim Burton, intensely admired also for 'Ed Wood' and the more recent 'Corpse Bride.' I never would have dreamed such excellent movies would evolve out of Hollywood, but bless our stars, they have. I can't say enough kind words about the ensemble acting, with outstanding performances by Depp, Ms. Ricci, and of course, by the incomparable Christopher Walken and the elegantly luscious Miranda Richardson. Watching this film is the tidal wave of all gothic orgasms. No kidding.
