Customer Reviews of Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit
Does the job I have used this product and its sister product the DVD Doctor to repair a few dozen CDs and DVDs. It has worked well in most cases. I use Exact Audio Copy to make MP3s. I have had disc show up with errors in EAC and then rip perfectly after a run through the Doctor. <

>The Doctors use a wet sanding technique to remove a layer of plastic over the whole surface of a disk to get remove scratches. It is not a spot polisher. The Doctors will not fix very deep scratches, but they will do a good job on light scratches, even if there are hundreds of them. Some times, even if a run through the Doctor does not completely remove a visible scratch, it will help enough to fix an error. You will notice that the disk will be covered with hundreds of very light radial sanding marks. These will buff out some with the included felt pad, but not completely. I have not had these cause a disk to play any worse than it was before. <

>Note: These machines will not repair Nintendo Game Cube games and other small form disks, especially not the DVD Doctor. The only disk I have had totally fail repair was a Game Cube game.
This thing works
I have no idea what most of the negative reviews are talking about. This item has worked perfectly for me. I've probably used it a dozen times and it has worked each time. I first bought it when I was desperate for a CD fix(a game I had been playing for about 45 hours). So I definitely wanted a fix. This thing takes a little effort, but the game worked perfectly after.

>Some tips...don't use this thing to clean a disc...A dirty disc doesn't justify its use. It basically resurfaces the bottom of the disc, removing the scratches that are causing the freezing. Also, follow the directions. Some discs are junk and not fixable...scratches on the top for example. But if you have minor scratches to fix that aren't that deep, this thing will fix it. I actually got on this site to find another, if that tells you anything(my other one is in storage in another state).
Has worked great both times I've used it
I received this gizmo as a gift sometime ago, and have had to use it twice since then. Both times it took the skip away from my lightly scratched CDs. I followed the directions that came with the Skip Dr. (i.e., I kept the discs wet with resurfacing fluid, ran them through the gizmo twice, dried them off, and buffed them afterward) and the skips and scratches disappeared. I understand that I'll need to replace the resurfacing wheel after 50 or so uses, according to the literature included, but since I try to keep my CDs in immaculate condition, I hope it will be a good long while until this is necessary.

>All in all, a great device for those who need to repair the occasional minor scratch/skip. For those whose CDs double as coasters, though, you may need to look elsewhere for scratch repair.
