Customer Reviews of Sinbad And The Eye Of Tiger
A terrific score, up there with the best of its type. Three Sinbad movies in quick succession, with the first two scored by none other than Bernard Herrmann and Miklos Rozsa - legendary, brilliant and irreplaceable composers of film music. <
>The third score? That was created by Roy Budd. <
>Herrmann, Rozsa and Budd. Spot the odd man out. For most people that would be the much-less-heralded Roy Budd. <
>Some fans might well have been given the impression that the production budget for the Sinbad movies must have been slashed significantly. Why else would the producers not go for one of the "top" men again? <
>Well, hearing this score decades later, it's clear that the selection of Budd to score this movie was inspired. Heard today, I can't detect signs of it sounding dated (unlike so much '70s film music). What's more, here is sound quality to match anything i've heard from soundtracks of this era, and infinitely better than the engineering we hear on the original soundtracks of Rozsa's and Herrmann's Sinbad excursions. It's taken me a long time to fully appreciate Roy Budd, but i will certainly appreciate him now. <
>Apart from a couple of tracks filled with what sounds like overtly oriental-sounding "source-style" music (I program these tracks out), the rest is a symphonic tour de force that swept me away with it's substance, presence, ingenuity and... well, QUALITY. <
>I won't go ino a listing of highlights - that's unimportant. what the reader here needs to know is that this is no mediocre effort we're talking about here, but a truly splendid, richly orchestrated score. If it was the soundtrack for one of today's movies, I would be very surprised if anyone realised it was a score created decades ago. And it would take sharper ears than mine to spot signs of age in the recording itself. <
>After listening to this CD today, I feel the need to re-assess the other work of Roy Budd that i've neglected to take seriously enough in the past. <
>Listen to this CD and you might be tempted to do the same. <
>Top marks not only to the composer, but also to the label for presenting us with such fine remastered sound. If you like the Herrmanns and Rozsas, or even the Poledouris's and Newton-Howards of today, here is a score I'm sure will satisfy you.
Not Miklos Rosza, but good nonetheless!!
I think Golden Voyage is the best of the Sinbad soundtracks and wasn't sure if I would like this score as much but find myself listening to it all the time. In the same style as the other Sinbad score's, I don't think any Sinbad fan will be disappointed and the price is right. Great from beginning to end!! As a bonus, the insert folds out into a 12x18 rendition of the original theatrical poster!! Also available at Amazon, check out Roy Budd's soundtrack for The Stone Killer if you dig those funky 70's soundtracks in the style of Enter the Dragon, Dirty Harry or The Omega Man. Ahh how I long for the 70's - the last great decade.....
