Customer Reviews of Simply Red - Home - Live in Sicily

Simply Amazing !!!
I've had dvds of Simply Red in the past but wasn't really happy with the sound or video quality BUT THIS DVD will really knock your shoes off. This is the best among all of Mick's concerts when it comes to Video & Sound Quality. The picture and sound quality is simply amazing !!!

On the first day that I got this dvd, I watched it six times and that was just the first day ... You will never regret buying this dvd. As always, Mick is very passionate when it comes to performing in front of a crowd.

This is a MUST HAVE concert dvd in my humble opinion.

Somber Concert With Misfit Crowd -- Seen on Infocus X1!
THE MOST SUPERB way to immerse yourself in the concert experience is to see it in a giant screen projector. No other medium delivers that live concert magic. And you'll realized in time, on the event that you're a projector user, that your concert DVD will be more thoroughly and frequently watched by you than feature film DVDs. Thus, the glory - or lack of it - of a concert can best be evaluated thru giant screen, and you don't need to be a millionnaire to enjoy it now. The Infocus X1 DLP projector that's selling now for as low as $800 in the United States (and P70,000 more or less in my country), will deliver this Simply Red concert to you in its accoustic strength. The wonder "chip" called the Faroudja scaler qualifiably revolutionizes the video performance of a democratically-priced projector like the X1, and makes even a somber concert like HOME still an exhilirating view. Why somber? That's because this film wouldn't be watched without comparing it with the LIVE IN LONDON proceeding. That one is a glorious experience, the confluence of lighting, very energetic playing, Hucknall's bravura -- AND, the deft, deft, ultra-kinetic, direction (camera work that's truly an illustrative classic for video-photography and editing course) -- makes for a classic live DVD thats constantly being watched since 1999. What about Sicily? The verdict is this: The concert is a major-grade somber than London, the crowd not so enthusiastic and the audio mix sounds accoustic and overwhelmed by the spatial dimension of the open-air concert venue (which is ancient Sicilian coliseum ruins). Why Simply Red decided to give a concert in Sicily is a little befuddlement, because as I could evaluate from my distance, its music by any chance couldn't easily hit a right nerve among Italian listeners. Is this a condescension or a sloppy comment? It proves not the moment you took care to check on the audience. The DVD will tell you that. Clearly, Mick has rendered his music to a misfit audience. Its like a world-caliber band unfortunately dumped in a quite insular island (or town) whose musical sensibility is just isn't ready yet for the Simply Red repertoire. In such a case, why give the pearls to the pig. I've also noticed that the ring-side people were consists of older folks who just stares without much appreciation. Chances are these are Sicily town's local bigwigs.
The lighting is not so good, its reminiscent of the Burt Bacharach DVD held at the Royal Albert Hall, where the performers are overwhelmed by the swallowing glare of the overhead white light, and the helpless cameraman couldn't tempered it without resorting to the most contorting angle. The result is that Hucknall was rendered like an albino, and his Sears-like $4.99 starch-white shirt doesn't help.Unlike the raucous but VERY ALIVE London DVD, Sicily is largely an "exposition" of Red's HOME album. The album's more relaxed, un-frenetic, and even suave mould is thus "translated" to the concert itself. But its unwitting because the audience has proven to be passive, and the concert is made as more of a highlight for the lead performer rather than the whole band. For Simply Red fans, this DVD is still an essential, after all you're given only three collectable choices. But there's a certain "energy" lacking here than LONDON. Still: "Home," "Feel Brand New," "Fairground" & "Sunrise" alone are worth the price of admission, with killer horns work. Just those cuts also justifies why you made an investment with a DLP projector like the X1, where even a routine-looking concert like Sicily could by all means captivate. The two song bonus are throw-aways and has a dreadful picture resolution. For the fan: an essential. For the casual DVD collector: fine but not great. For the fans reading this: This DVD is made to be seen thru the X1, and London is even more fantastic.

Mick+The Band=Perfect Chemistry-Take A New Listen
Mick loves his audience. His gift of bringing good talent together to celebrate great compositions is making us FEEL BRAND NEW all over again. We've missed SR so much lately, and the recent world tour and new CD HOME and DVD LIVE IN SICELY bring us THE BOSS live and back into our lives. Fans, you won't be disappointed. New listeners will not only love these, but will purchase the 20 years of classic Simply Red music. Have a great time watching the Live concert in Italy on DVD. Mick will even speak to you in Italian! Loved It, you will too.
