Customer Reviews of Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG IF Macro Aspherical Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
Great range but slow focusing and too soft at the long end The 28-300mm (45-480mm on a 30d) has a great range and would have made a good all purpose walk around lens. However, because of it's speed f/3.5-6.3 it was slow to focus and in low light there were times it could not focus at all. Also, while quite sharp on the short end, it lost its sharpness over 200mm. When using in bright sun with dark shadows it was difficult to get a proper exposure. Other lenses I have used did not suffer this problem. Returned and purchased a Canon 70-200mm f/4 which I would give 5 stars.
Good lens for a good price.
I purchase this lens for the Digital Rebel XT body I also purchased through Amazon. So far the lens has performed as expected. It is solid and well built. Sticks slightly, when zooming through 200mm. Images are crisp and focus is sharp. Working at 300mm can be a challenge without using a mono or tripod. Shooting a bird in flight at 300mm is a trick.

>Overall, good lens for $200. If you have more money, then a lens with Image Stabilization (IS) would be the way to go.
great value
Pros: High quality construction, nothing about it feels cheap. Comes with the lens hood. Has great telephoto capability. Excellent price for a starter telephoto lens.

>Cons: Quite a bit of chromatic abberation around the edges at 200mm-300mm. You'll definately want to use a tripod for this for anything above 100mm since there is no IS.

>Overall, if you want a lens simply because you want a wide range and the ability to zoom far in get this. If you want QUALITY pictures however, look elsewhere. I'm thinking of spending ~$500 on one of Canon's Image Stabilization lenses.
