Customer Reviews of Sidewinder Sessions
ahhhh Sand Rubies--Sidewinders, how we miss you I've been a big fan of this band ever since moving to Arizona 9 years ago. It's too bad they never hit it big; it seems they were always in the shadow of the Gin Blossoms and the Refreshments. (Both of which are excellent bands, of course). My fave Rubies CD is the self-titled 1993 release. It's out of print, but if you can find it at a used record store, it's well worth the cash. "Santa Maria Street" and "Your Life Story" are as good as anything they've ever written.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I FOUND THIS!
I have been a huge fan of Sidewinders since I was a senior in High School in 89'. I have the "Witchdoctor" cassette and have always wanted to find this on CD. I was just browsing on amazon.com and this came up. I didn't even know that they had changed the name. I highly recommend this CD. It is one of the best musicaly that I can remember and I am glad now that I can listen to it in good quality.
finally!
I bought this CD this morning, after stumbling upon a mention of the Sand Rubies' former name - Sidewinders.
I have copies of Sidewinders' "Witchdoctor" and "Auntie Ramos' Pool Hall." Both are great albums and are very, very hard (if not impossible) to find. Most of the songs on those albums are on this "Sidewinders Sessions" title.
I absolutely love the guitar work. The vocals are very rough and sometimes out of tune. I'm not sure who else sounds like these guys. They're from Arizona so maybe it's desert rock? The songs are raucous yet heartfelt descriptions of loss, heartache and addiction. Especially good are "Love '88" "If I Can't Have You" "What am I Supposed to Do?" and "Come on Like the Sun."
