Customer Reviews of Showgirls (VIP Limited Edition)
Yeah, it was bad to a point but who cares? When Showgirls first came out on video, I was curious as to why it got such a bad review and for the NC-17 rating. So I bought it. At first I didn't understand the plot but after watching several more times it started to make sense. Elizabeth Berkeley may have overdramatized her role as Nomi, but she had spunk! I liked Henrietta at the Cheetah, as well as Crystal. Pretty soon after watching it more times than I care to count, I started quoting some scenes from the movie. I liked the dancing, the costumes, everything! See the movie and decide for yourself!Oh and another thig I want to add: I finally purchased the DVD version. I like this version better than the VHS because of the quality of the movie as well as the sound. My favorite part was the dance rehearsal where Marty introduced Nomi to the gals. I played that scene over and over again because it's fun! I wouldn't practice dancing with heels and makeup though. LOL I was sorely disappointed by the brief featurette because I wanted more details, more behind the scenes cuts and interviews from those actors who were involved in the project. I must also comment that I was embarrassed by the negative reviews it got from those bigwig critics.I felt like it was me who wrote the script! Only the NY Times gave it a satisfactory review. Anyway for a good laugh and something to make you feel better, rent or buy this movie...I did! :)
It's true: this movie is so bad, it is almost good...
I derived most of the pleasure I got from this movie from Elizabeth Berkley. I was never so highly entertained by such stunningly bad acting. It went beyond anything I have ever seen. There is such a thing as trying to hard, and boy did she master the art. It did not help that Nomi Malone was such an distasteful character either.
The plot can be summed up in very few words: girl comes to Vegas, girl becomes a showgirl, girl gets the lead in the show after alot of backstabbing, girl leaves Vegas. Despite a lot of nudity, lap-dancing and sex, there is no sexual chemistry, that I could find, between any of the actors.
I am sorry to say that the only effective part of this movie is the brutal rape scene, because it is the most disturbingly realistic depiction of rape, and the resulting physical damage, that I have ever seen. It was sickening, and hope I don't ever have to see something like that again.
Despite that fact, I have to call this one of life's guilty pleasures. Like some of the cheesier Elvis movies, but for different reasons of course. Enjoy.
Hea, we all know why we love this film
Let's all be honest with ourselves. This film is about Elizabeth Berkley and how gorgeous she was in the nude.
