Customer Reviews of Serious Sam
I don't generally like games, but I like this! Yeah, yeah, it's violent, bloody, mindless shooting.
Just what I was looking for!
The "plot" is simple enough that you don't really have to worry about it at all (summary: shoot the bad guys, keep running). One thing I've not liked about games I've played is having to either solve ridiculously-hard puzzles (I do *not* want to take notes while playing a game!), or being so unentertaining that you quit out of sheer boredom ten minutes in. Serious Sam offers a good compromise: some light problem solving and mazes to navigate, intuitive enough to be able to just start the game and *play*, and a combination of visual and sound effects that are definitely entertaining.
The monster coalition includes some humorous characters (the "headless screamers" and "arachnoids" being my favorites), though they aren't terribly smart or motivated. But that's OK (see summary, above). Sam gets an improbable selection of weapons, some of which seem like they are vastly overpowered at first -- but when you're faced with several dozen headless attackers advancing on you, you'll suddenly see the wisdom in giving Sam all that firepower.
The soundtrack is enteraining, even if a bit repetitive, and helps keep your adrenaline flowing. Best of all are the visual effects (especially with a good graphics card). The Egyptian scenery is beautiful -- and perhaps my favorite effect is the solar flare when you look in the direction of the sun (obviously these guys put some thought into that one!).
So, if you're not a hard-core gamer (like I'm definitely *not*), but want to have some mindless fun shooting bad guys, Serious Sam is for you. [And you can't beat the price, either!]
Take that ya faceless, soulless corporate Video games!!!!
If you're tired of the same old shooter games where you jump, shoot, sneak, jump, shoot... then get this game! Serious Sam throws out all the crap that shooter video games have become and gives you a game where you run and kill anything and everything.
If you are like me, you do not enjoy games like Thief 2 where you must spend hours sneaking around looking for the right shaded pixel to walk on. And if you're like me, you think that this whole "awesome" 3d graphics for PC video games is highly overrated in games like No One Lives Forever (where human faces look like they are wrapped around rocks) then this game is for you. No sneaking, great graphics, and hours and days and weeks of fun fun fun!
Best of all, you get a score! HA! To think it took 10 years for a gaming developer to think of this.
Then there's the price... for this masterpiece of minimilist arcade type action. This game is the asteroids of first person shooters - level after level of the same thing but you still love it cuz it's hard and too much fun for one person to have.
One heck of a blast...
Serious Sam, the only man who can save the Earth, makes his first appearance. Serious Sam is a nice change from all the flashy difficult shooters, because there is very little puzzle work involved. Simply pick up your guns and start shooting anything that moves. It's quite simply a new-born DOOM.
Some of the remarks Sam makes are very funny and the enemies come in all different sizes, from small zombies to giant insects!
However, sometimes the game gets difficult and it has you tearing your hear out. So many enemies coming at you and no cover at all means you have to be quick on your toes and quick on the trigger. Plus it gets repetitive as well. Simply going in, killing everything and going out gets boring after a while.
Plus, the enemies all have the same attacks. And they just run blindly at you with no regard for anything else... which doesn't make a challenge.
However, if you can turn a blind eye to these flaws then Serious Sam is a classic shooting game which has everything a trigger happy guy would like.
GOOD BITS

The Verdict: 4 out of 5
