As the manhunt continues, Brosnan and Neeson make the most of minimal dialogue, and flashbacks give us hints about the tragic event that set this plot in motion. It's a simple, elemental tale of justice in the wilderness, with occasional quirks like a snake-oil vendor (Anjelica Huston) who appears literally out of nowhere, and a top-hatted Indian (Wes Studi) who gives the film a slight, mystical air of mystery. And while a more daring director might have opted for a more powerful visual style, there's something to be said for Von Ancken's straightforward approach, perfectly matched by Toll's breathtaking landscapes, shot on location in Oregon and New Mexico and ranging from raging rivers to sun-baked desert flats. None of this makes Seraphim Falls a particularly exceptional movie, but with a fine cast that also includes such familiar faces as Angie Harmon, Tom Noonan, Xander Berkeley, and Kevin J. O'Connor, there's ample reward in a film that doesn't pretend to be anything more than a respectable entry in its genre. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews of Seraphim Falls
Odd and Disjointed I was very excited when I saw the trailer for this in the theater. It looked AMAZING. Then again, I saw another trailer for it. Still looked incredible. Then another, same thing. Then...well, it never came out; it never played in the theaters. Then one day my wife and I were in the video store and she said, "Honey, isn't that the movie you were excited about seeing?" Sure enough, there it was. I rented it. <

>Now, having watched it, I can easily see why they opted not to show this film in the theaters. There is much that is good about Seraphim Falls, but there is also much that is bad. For starters, the film is very disjointed. Brosnan overacts shamelessly and Neeson, oddly, underacts (he doesn't seem too thrilled with the project, as a matter of fact). <

>The film is basically one long chase scene, but unlike The Hunted, with Tommy Lee Jones and Benecio Del Toro, it simply can't manage to keep the suspense going. It peters out pretty quickly, attempting to keep us on edge with glimpses of WHY the chase is occurring; but when we learn why, it's not all that exciting. The film tries to lecture us on the evils of revenge, on how it can transform and ruin you, but even this feels forced, contrived, and in the end, is unexciting. Angelica Houston's BIZARRE cameo should have been cut from the film altogether. What she is (the devil perhaps?) it in no way made clear, and she adds nothing to the film.
Ultimately dissappointing
This was a waste of the acting talent of some great actors. The opening sequences and subsequent escape of Brosnans character from the opening scene was indeed memorable, and the filmography stunning, but you're immediately asking the question of 'why does (Neeson) want so desperately to hunt down and kill (Brosnan)?'. This question goes unanswered for the majority of the movie, and once it's made known that the two were former war rivals and an accident takes the life of Neesons family (for which he blames Brosnan), the motivation is unsatisfying. I had absolutely no empathy with Neeson's character, who is apparently hell bent for misplaced revenge over nothing more than bad judgement, not malice. I was left with a feeling of 'that's it?' when trying to understand Neesons motive, and the ending was so anticlimactic as to render this movie utterly forgettable.
ok acting,wasted
a good premiss of revenge and regret set in the cowpoke/civil war era.the begining (as with most hollywood movies)starts out strong.pierce is a stranger (youll learn later he really isnt) just wanting to be left alone and live off the fat of the land collecting hides.
