Customer Reviews of Secret Kingdom
Save for a Rainy Day The Secret Kingdom is faintly reminiscent of C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but the secret kingdom is found under the kitchen sink of the Freemont house and not in the wardrobe. Zak, Mark, and Callie Freemont are the children in the Freemont home, with Callie in charge of Zak, the youngest, while the parents are away on a trip. Zak accidentally discovers the kingdom under the sink as the kingdom's rebel scientist, Chartwell, calls him via energy transformter to Zak's walkie-talkie.
Chartwell, a citizen of the secret kingdom, invented an energy transformer capable of transporting those from the outside into the kingdom. The kingdom is ruled by the evil Regent who has everyone in his kingdom "pefected" by perfection surgery performed in the Ministry of Perfection. Many of the kingdom's citizens have been rendered sightless (flesh implants over the eyes), others have been subjected to brain surgery (lobotomies) to make them like doing menial labor.
Zak's brother, Mark, grabs the walkie-talkie from Zak at the moment Chartwell activates the energy transformer and transports Mark into the kingdom. Zak is surprised to see his brother disappear and is afraid to tell his teenage sister, Callie. Finally, he reveals the truth to her. She scoffs, but Zak shows her the kingdom under the sink.
The evil Regent calls out on Chartwell's transmitter, Callie begins talking, and is transported into the kingdom. She becomes convinced by the Regent that the rebels are evil, while her brother, Mark, has sided with the rebels. The problem becomes how to get Mark and Callie safely home and get the kingdom out of the grasp of the evil Regent.
Although many guns are fired and bullets zip everywhere, no one is ever seen being shot. All injuries are implied. Violence is always implied in this film but is never shown. There are no obscenities or scenes with sexual content. This bizarre film is poor entertainment, and children might find it boring, even on a rainy day with nothing to do. It is not a story that would interest adults.
