Customer Reviews of Secret Double Stick Fighting #1 VHS
Great video on sinawali skills Edgar Sulite passed away all too young about 5 years ago (he was only about 40), but his legacy lives on in a brilliant series of videos, and his system was one of the most respected and famous in the Filipino arts. He did a number of videos, including single stick, double stick, two volumes of self-defense against the knife, and others. <

>This is a great video on the sinawali stick art, the double stick art of the Philippine plain. Hector studied from at least half a dozen great masters to perfect his system. The word Lameco escrima derives from the three ranges, largo, media, and corto, in Filipino stick and knife fighting. <

>Edgar was especially known for his very polished strokes and stroking patterns, and he works those quite a bit in this video. I picked up numerous pointers on how to improve my movements from his videos. <

>Another strong point in this video (and many of his) is the footwork. His footwork is some of the best around. Here he goes into the Ilustrisimo crosstep, retirada Caballero, hakbang paiwas side-stepping, stepping with the sticks in a triangle pattern on the floor, and others. These are great drills to improve your footwork. There are no great stick and knife fighters without great footwork, and Hector emphasizes footwork in his training. <

>The stick drills work the figure 8, plus many other combos such as reverse figure 8, double redondo, regular and reverse X patterns, and a combo very similar to Max Sarmiento's favorite pattern, which was a forward florete, flicking jab, and backhand back to the ready position. <

>Another emphasis is doing the strikes while moving using the footwork. This really helps to polish your overall skills and is great exercise as well. :-) Overall, another great video from guru Sulite.
