Customer Reviews of Scrooge
THE Best Christmas Movie EVER! I have watched Scrooge for years! I actually have 3 copies of this movie, just in case they take it off the market! I cannot imagine life without Scrooge! Acting, sets, and music are PERFECT. In fact, there is not a single second of this movie that I do not like! FIVE STARS for this movie... if only we could give it SIX!
Perhaps the Finest Musical Ever
This remains one of my top five favorite films of any genre. The superb adaptation for the screen featuring some of the most poignant film music ever makes this a production of which Charles Dickens himself would whole-heartedly approve.

>Albert Finney is the greatest Scrooge ever portrayed and he is supported by a superb cast starring some of Britain's greatest talents including Alec Guiness and Dame Edith Evans. Guiness as Marley's ghost continues to send chills down my spine and his haunting "See the Phantoms" with the gravely voice accompanying a flight through literal Hell amongst the spirits of the damned is, to me, a very believable portrayal of what Hell will be like for the unrepentant of this world.

>David Collings as the mild-mannered family man Bob Cratchit is an example of true family love and self-sacrifice to ensure a memorable Christmas for his children in spite of their financial hardship.
<
>Obviously, what makes this musical so superior to others (those cheesy Roger's and Hammerstein's come to mind) is the music. Each song is a beautiful gold ornament. Leslie Bricusse's songwriting is pure magic in this film. "You Were Dear to Me" is one of the saddest musical numbers I've heard and still brings a tear to the eye of this 6'2" 215# construction laborer and bodybuilder.
<
>The grand finale medley of "Thank You Very Much" and "Father Christmas" is one designed for the big screen and surround audio. Be sure to play at extreme volume to annoy the visiting in-laws.
<
>"Scrooge" is a magical human pathos spanning the entire emotional gamut. It is also a redemptive story of a second chance in life.

>How many of us need one of those!
The Best Of The Best
I first saw this movie when I was a young child in 1970. My class was rewarded with a lunch and movie day for selling the most candy bars for a school fund raiser. I loved this movie from the first time I saw it and I never forgot the delightful impact it had on me. I was Just delighted when this movie came out on VHS and I have replayed this movie over and over til I just wore It out. I can't tell you my excitement of finaly finding it on DVD. This movie deserves to placed among the all time Christmas classic for a must see during the Holidays and for the most part all year round. IT'S A MUST SEE...........YOU WILL LOVE IT.
