Customer Reviews of Screen Behind the Mirror
Unimaginative effort As a long-standing fan of the work of Enigma I must confess that I found this recording to be quite underwhelming. The first album was fantastic, as a whole and also as isolated tracks. The same could be said about The Cross of Changes. These first 2 Enigma efforts won me over almost immediately, and are still favourites. It took me a little longer to warm to and appreciate and Le king est mort. However, I feel that on this most recent recording (Screen) the music has become stale, uninspired and unimaginative. Karl Orff's Carmina Burana (aka The Omen movies) has been oversampled, the disjointed guitars are brought even more to the front and Cretu's strained vocal delivery is tired and lacking. The mystery and otherworld escapism present on previous CD's is sadly lacking here. I was looking forward to another fine exotic, mellow, dreamish CD and was disappointed. It is inconsistent as an album, at times discordant and jarring. I never thought I would find an Enigma CD aurally annoying If you don't have all of the first 3 CD's already - or the beautifully presented Trilogy 3CD set - buy that instead!!!
Soul-Candy.
This album, along with all their previous ones are simply irresistable. They soothe the soul, bring gentle thoughts and dreams to the listener. This album is just more of the intense and hauntingly beautiful music you long and crave for. It's soul-candy.
I can't wait for more!!!! My favorite way to listen to Enigma music is alone in a dark room with lots of lit candles and incense, lying on the floor, eyes closed, with the volume up and/ or with headphones. AAAAHHHHHHH.
Another good album from the Greatest Group!
Although released nearly a year behind schedule, the music in "The Screen Behind the Mirror" makes the wait worthwhile. Curly M.C., the man behind Enigma, purchased new music equipment soon after the "Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi" album was released. This new and enhanced equipment allowed for Curly M.C. to add different sounds to his trademark style. Many of the songs feature a sample from the classic work "Carmina Burana (o Fortuna)" by Carl Orff. When you hear it, you'll recognize it. The new energy the music delivers combines for a passion in all of the songs. "Gravity of Love" has a line that says, "The path of excess leads to the tower of wisdom." This is actually a quote featured in the cover sleeve of the MCMXC a.D. Limited Edition. This brilliantly ties the two albums together. In fact, this album features the styles of the previous three in masterful harmony. This is a must have for any listener of great sounding inspirational world music.
