School's Back In!
SCHOOL'S OUT was the album that put the Alice Cooper Group way over the top.Taking every worn out cliche of American High School,a dollop of teen angst,and a love of WEST SIDE STORY,and you have a classic seventies(and beyond)release.The title track has always been a song to be played on the last day of school(very loudly!).Many music styles are incorporated:cool jazz(BLUE TURK),space rock(MY STARS),hard rock(PUBLIC ANIMAL NUMBER 9),and broadway show tunes(GUTTER CATS VERSUS THE JETS,FINALE).My favorite track is ALMA MATER because it shows a hitherto unseen sensitive side of the Coop.SCHOOL'S OUT is a perfect concept album for the teenage years.Even the cover was innovative for it's time(I wish I had the first edition with the "surprise" wrapper) .I'd advise all novice Cooper addicts to purchase this release.Remember the Coop,eh?

I can't believe other people gave this 5 stars!
Side one of this album is top notch ALICE COOPER; side two
is dreadful! This album was a bit of a letdown after A.C'S masterpiece KILLER. The album gets off to a very strong start, but after the very jazzy BLUE TURK it goes straight downhill.
The first three songs sees A.C. perfecting the hard rock of KILL-
ER and LOVE IT TO DEATH. The title track is one of their best
hard rock songs ever(the ending took me by surprise; I thought
there was something wrong with my turntable!). LUNEY TUNE is
also quite good. GUTTER CATS VS. THE JETS is the album's greatest
song. It's very menacing with it's lyrics and has a very danger-
ous sounding instrumental section and has another cool drum
pattern from NEIL SMITH. I hated BLUE TURK at first, but the song
really grew on me after repeated listens. It's a very rare foray
into beatnik jazz, with some nice interaction between the horns
and the guitars. The only song that I think is worth listening to
on the other half of the album is NEIL SMITH's silly tune ALMA
MATER, even tho' MY STARS does have some nice piano playing in
it along with some more outstanding drumming from SMITH.
GRAND FINALE sounds like something my high school marching band
would play and that's not meant as a compliment! After the bril-
liant hard rock and progressive heavy metal of KILLER, this high
school marching band s@#@# was a HUGE disappointment!
STILL, side one is fab and the original album packaging is genius. A good, but not great A.C. album!

Alice at his best!
This album is Alice at his best, and most creative. The music is superb, as are the lyrics. Schools Out is the best overall AC album on the market today. I can remember buying this L.P. and folding out the cover to make a school desk, such brillance!!! It is my favorite AC album of all time, and will be yours too. Buy this, crank it up to max volume, and enjoy.
