Customer Reviews of ScanSoft PaperPort 10
.pdf's here we come! I've been using Paperport for years, happily. I was salivating over 10.0 and the new system where you can just do everything in .pdf, ending so many compatability hassles with your correspondants. Now I have to deal with a large number of documents and lots of faxing and emailing stuff to poeple where it's just a lot easier if I go ahead and send them something as easy to use as possible, so I got to get it. It's a professional installation that includes Pdf Create that then becomes available as a new tool in other applications in your system to take snapshots or convert a Word file to .pdf and is extensively used in Paperport in the background to do so much wizardry. I can easily fill in forms, add signatures and post it's, even edit pdf's in a rudimetary way or send them to another app throught he OCR built in for more extensive work, and seamless integration with my fax software-hell, seamless integration with everything! The send to bar is a dream in real world fast-paced office work. There's a few tricks to learn-like convert to and old-style paperport .max file to be able to do the more fancy tricks like page straightening and you really have to do this first to rotate a .pdf then go back to .pdf for your oh-so-compatible office storage. If you don't, sometimes the rotation doesn't "stick" and your edits end up in the wrong place. <

>This system ROCKS! It's everything I hoped it would be. What problems I had were quickly solved by very experienced support. I'm sorry people are having problems with it, maybe it needs a newer beefier system like many other new versions of high-level software. All operations are performed instantaneously on my self-built AMD 64 3000+ and I load this thing up unrelentingly with at least a half dozen apps running at the same time- and some of them with numerous multiple windows open (5 Firefox windows with 5-20 tabs going, DeLorme also bad ass mapping software, lovely Office, even Google Earth to check the satellite images), and constant faxing. (and I'll still fire up Reason on top of that, too, or find I've still left it running under all that mess from last night ;-D !!!) <

>I don't write many reviews either. I just happened to look to see what's being said about this little proggie I like so well and I'm def a power user of it, and obviously I didn't like what's being said.
Disappointed...
Some of the features in version 10 were very nice (search features and better page handling) compared to version 9 which I have been using for quite some time. The biggest dissapointment for me was that version 10 would not recognize the ADF feature of my HP7130 all-in-one. Multi-page documents had to be scanned a single page at a time. This effectively eliminated it's usefullness. I went back to version 9. Another reviewer said that he could not use version 9 with XP service pack 2, but I have had no problem.
PaperPort 10 is Document Management at its Best
I have used PaperPort for a number of years. It keeps getting better and better with each release. I just installed version 10 and am very improesssed with the new "split desktop". This feature makes it simple to move documents to and from different folders when aggregating sets. It works great for my mortage business, as we can keep all the infroamtion for a specific property in one place and archive it for easy retrieval. The added PDF functionality is a great for us because we need to lock down he content of our docuemtns when we are working with lenders/credit agencies/government etc. on a sale. For $200 it can't be beat. Just my 2 cents.
