The story, as usual, is secondary to the action: players must make their way through detailed swamps, ruined laboratories, and the inside of a volcano to defeat the evil Dr. Corts. Plenty of puzzles and dinosaur enemies stand in the way, and can only be defeated by using the right combinations of DNA collected by scanning bar codes from around the house or at friendly stores. Scanning becomes surprisingly addictive, even for adults, and players might find themselves spending more time with the peripheral than with the game itself. Putting the DNA together is a neat exercise in spatial thinking, but what it really comes down to is guiding the velociraptor, T. rex, or Spinosaurus through their missions.
Installation takes a bit more work than usual because of the scanning hardware, but this effort is rewarded with great gameplay. Unlike the films it is based on, the violence in this game is minimal and nonlethal. The dinosaurs are beautifully created here, and the DNA scanning keeps things interesting longer than most games of this type. (Ages 8 and older) --Rob Lightner

Customer Reviews of Scan Command: Jurassic Park
Review from someone who's actually played the game I've actually played this game--unlike some of the other reviewers here :-( and I think it's great. The scanner is cool and lets you play the game even when you're away from the computer. You can scan almost any barcode and get special powers. I love going into grocery stores with my scanner and just scanning everything in sight! Even boring things like flour and toothpaste can have very strong powers attached to them. You have to experiment to find the really powerful stuff and that's part of the fun.
The graphics are really great and they're much better than graphics in most kids games. The story is interesting and the levels are fun without being impossible to get through. The battles are the best part. These dinosaurs really know how to fight. And even when you beat a bad guy, he doesn't die, he just slinks away. That part is so funny to watch!
There's supposed to be some super-powers hidden in different barcodes but I haven't found one yet. I am checking in with their website every few days for updates.
Scan Command
I think Scan Command is great! Scan Command is greater than I thought it was. I thought That I was suppose to scan bar codes for dinosaurs but now I know that I`m suppose to scan bar codes for DNA. Scan Command is one of my favorite Jurassic Park games.
One major flaw hoax: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!
I bought Jurassic Park Scan Command, and I am having a blast with it. Just a few minutes ago, I read a review for this game that said there was a major flaw in the game, because you couldn't reset the scanner and be able to scan barcodes that was scanned before. WRONG! There is a way. If the reviewer would have taken the time to read the instructions carefully, if not at all, they would know that there is a reset button on the back of the scanner. It is made for reseting the scanner after it has frozen, but if you press it (you have to use a pencil point to press it), it will reset the barcode history, and you can scan barcodes again and again. This is why you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!
