Customer Reviews of Samurai Deeper Kyo Premium Box Set
Samurai Deeper Kyo is one of the best shows ever! Samurai Deeper Kyo is truly one of the best shows ever to come out. I got into it with my Aunt a long time ago. She told me the storyline and everything; about the battle of Segigahara, Demon Eyes Kyo, Kyoshiro, all that stuff. I herd the theme song first and really got into it. I got to see the 2nd disc first because my Aunt had already taken it back. I added the disc collection on my Netflix and right now I've already watched the 1st disc.
A good start, but followed by a downhill slump.
When I recieved the first volume of the series for my birthday, I was excited to see how well the manga was adopted into an anime. I was suprised to see the story line had been altered radically, and was a bit dissapointed. I dont like the whole kenyo element of the story, I much prefer the manga.

> The first four episodes were fair, and I considered buying the boxed set to complete the collection. However, when I watched the rest I was severely dissapointed. The voice acting goes drastically downhill after episode 4, like the actors just gave up on sounding at all good. Dont even get me started on Migiera, or however its spelled...he has some strange kind of half-german half-russian accent, and I find myself muting the tv whenever he's speaking. Benitora's sudden transition to overly satirical southern drawl angered me the most, I found it highly insulting having been born in Virginia myself. The members of the 12 were also voiced rather poorly in my opinion, Shindara being the biggest dissapointment. The mangling of the story line really kicks up here, and at this point I decided that it wasnt worth my money.

> All in all, I give it a 2. The soundtrack was decent, prompting me to give it a 2 rather than a 1. Voice acting was the pits, if you want to watch this anime then I recommend the sub to the dub any day. If you are a hardcore fan of the manga you will probably be dissapointed because of the severe alteration of the original story, but if you are just planning on watching the anime without comparing it to the manga it could be remotely amusing. It's up to your own judgment to make the final decision, but dont get your hopes up for a superior anime adaptation.
Unique
Anyone who compares Kyo to Rurouni Kenshin is very misinformed. First of all Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai Deeper Kyo is like comparing Star Wars to Star Trek...both are sci fi but both are very different.

>Samurai Deeper Kyo is my favorite of the two. Rurouni Kenshin is more "comedy" than anything whereas Kyo is more serious in tone and has its "comedic" moments but alot less than Kenshin.

>Samurai Deeper Kyo has its own style and the color schemes they use are simply breathtaking if you really take time to really look at the show. Kyo cannot be judged by one episode either as the show is 26 episodes long and has MANY twists and turns plotwise. The ending is seen coming towards the end but truly delivers how most animes SHOULD but don't. The characters are all very engaging and well done. Some animes have a little character development and full on action. Kyo combines both perfectly. The idea that "fate" is predestined is thrown out with this series and THAT makes me love it all the more! If you want something deep with historical background with fictious characters with a fantasy slant then this show is for you.
