With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the SP-P4251 is a mere 3.4 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.
The set boasts an incredible contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and a brightness rating of 1,000 cd/m2. With every scene, the picture is clear and vivid, capturing and revealing every detail, even in bright light. The set's picture-frame design is finished in luxurious aluminum and acrylic with contrasting tones of sliver and black. The use of these colors and materials help eliminate glare and facilitate comfortable viewing, freeing your eyes to focus only on the picture.
The set's panel construction is calibrated for better performance and greater durability than earlier plasma models--even surpassing the longevity of prior-generation CRT sets, offering a 50,000-hour panel life (viewing time under normal conditions, after which picture deterioration may occur).
Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) combines a Motion Optimizer, Contrast Enhancer, Detail Enhancer, and Color Optimizer to deliver a vivid, lifelike picture. With the Motion Optimizer, fast-moving images are rendered with more natural-looking motion, without blurring or noise. DNIe's Detail Enhancer analyzes video elements to produce sharper detail, clear image separation, and natural edge transition. The Color Optimizer gives colors lifelike realism while making whites more accurate and skin tones more natural. The Contrast Enhancer gives you deeper, richer blacks with greater detail and more natural whites.
In addition to component (Y, Pb, Pr) inputs for an HD set-top box, PC, and DVD player, the set also offers an DVI-HDTV (Digital Visual Interface) jack for the best possible resolution in a direct digital connection. In keeping with the slim profile of the Plasma TV, AV jacks are on the side so that, even after installation, peripherals such as video players, camcorders, and other AV equipment can be easily connected.
Built-in speakers powered by 12 watts per channel means your movies and TV programming will sound great even without a standalone multichannel surround system. Helping out in the surround-effect department, SRS TruSurround XT incorporates these features: TruSurround 6CH Surround Effect, TruBass Virtual Woofer Effect, Dialog Clarity Virtual Center Effect, and WOW Stereo Enhancement.
Wall mounting is optional using Samsung's WMN4240 wall-mount kit.

Customer Reviews of Samsung SP-P4251 42" EDTV Plasma Television with Built-in Speakers
very nice looking (until you turn it on) love the style, the black bezel looks sharp, but even with dvi from my comcast hdtv box it still suffers from blochy shading effect especially in dark scenes and on flesh tones. Go to BB or CC and do the pepsi challange with the panasonic - im sorry to say but there really is a difference between samsungs 5 generation technology and panasonic's 7th! I've done sooooo much research im totally over this decision - i just want to sit down and be satisfied. trust me - ive been struggling with diff brands for 8 months - go with a panasonic, pioneer, sony or hitachi. if you are concerned about extended warranty - buy it with an amex - they double the coverage period on my new panasonic TH-42PD50U. ps - dtvcity com has it cheapest - good luck
Excellent Picture with High Def Programming and P-Scan DVD
I have owned my Samsung SP-P4251 for 3 months now. With a dizzying array of plasma display options out there, for me it came down to price and side-by-side picture comparison in one of the big box stores (go take a look at them in person first, even if you plan to purchase on-line). My SP-P4251 is connected to a Dish Network 921 High Def/DVR satellite receiver (DVI interface) with an OTA antenna for local channels and a Samsung progressive scan DVD player (component video interface). High Definition programming (both satellite and OTA) produces a SUPERB picture on this display, PERIOD! Progressive scan DVD also looks very good (although not as crisp as the 720p High Definition programming!). I will caution you now that some of the standard definition programming you think looks good on your stanard tube TV today is going to look worse on a large 42" display, but this is true of any large screen whether it be plasma, LCD, DLP, etc. The larger screen is going to emphasize the imperfections of standard definition programming, especially if it's analog.

>In summary, I would highly recommend this display but it's only going to be as good as the video source you provide so make sure you have High Definition programming available (either Cable, Satellite or OTA). This too will require some patience, High Def programming is still in it's infancy (most programming is still broadcast in Standard Definition today), but more High Def is on it's way and once you see it you won't look back!
