Customer Reviews of Salvador Dali - A Soft Self-Portrait
Definitive Dalimentary! This movie is extraordinary! It truly is as much a movie as a documentary. Amazingly, it explores Dali's persona better than any other presentation, yet focuses neither on biographical information nor the artwork itself. The works are shown to an extent, but in very unconventional ways -- either superimposed over the Spanish seascapes that inspired them or shown along with hallucinogenic photographic & cinematic effects. <

>There are strange visual tricks with painted faces, bizarre rituals and ellaborate costumes. And don't worry, Dali is as shamelssly eccentric as he's ever been. At one point, Dali & Gala hatch out of eggs on the beach. Dali then throws out some "symbolic" milk, blood & fish. <

>Soft Self-portrait should be considered a masterwork. Orson Welles' narration is first-rate. The music is appropriately strange. The vocals sound like theremins. The oddities are too numerous to mention. There is the essential pig-painting scene, of course. If you're expecting a standard documentary about Dali or his work, this may not be for you. However, if you would like to see a documentary about Dali that is nearly as strange as the man himself, then YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM!
