Customer Reviews of Salutations From the Ghetto Na
"I LIVE ON IN WORLD WAR III" This album truly was a masterpiece of political despair and anger. Why it is not given it's proper respects I do not know. Just buy the album and experience the music for yourself. If you have never heard this album you will most likely walk away with a new outlook on the environment around you.
SALUTATIONS Shakes The Rafters
Led by the motor-mouthed Kory Clarke, this NY banshee-wail outfit's first three albums showed great intensity & craft, each new album building on the one previous; SALUTATIONS is their third and hands-down best. It would be a mistake to categorize their sound too rigidly, thus I won't try. Consistently atmospheric, unpredictable and scary-ferocious, performed with gusto and a touch of grandeur, SALUTATIONS tries a variety of approaches throughout this cd. Not only do you get anthemic powerhouses 'Love Destruction', 'Trip Rider' and 'The Party'- all of which leave cigarette burns on your cerebral cortex - but, you get equal doses of narcotically-swirling mind-expanders like 'Dimension', 'Shine Like It', 'The Golden Shore' and the title track. I realize that just a listing of titles communicates next to nothing, so let me weakly add that the sense of apocalypse hangs heavy over this cd....listening to these songs, I close my eyes and picture the rusted ruins of a once-teeming metropolis; now totally devoid of life, eddies of nuclear wind blowing yellowed newspapers through deathly-quiet streets. (That said, there are two punk metal tunes here that don't work at all and temporarily break this mood.) Clarke's lyrics - utterly mired in post-everything hopelessness - are delivered in his trademark doomsday howl, and the band is first-rate, especially guitarist John Ricco! (Had this album been released 25 years ago, he'd have his own line of Strats by now.)After this release, Clarke fired Ricco and, no surprise, Warrior Soul's collapse into self-indulgence began in earnest. Even the first two albums (LAST DECADE DEAD CENTURY and DRUGS, GOD & THE NEW REPUBLIC) are as much miss than hit, although both have good moments. But there's no question that SALUTATIONS ranks with the decade's best metal releases. Now out of print, but make a mental note to keep an eye out for this one at the better second-hand oulets.
Knocks you down, picks you up and kicks you down again
A fantastic album. It is great to hear a hard band that has a viable opinion on our countrys state. Kory Clarke is great, as is the rest of the band. Very distinct sound! Get it ! You won't be disappointed.
